Section 94
14Gk. τοṽτο λέγω ἴνα μηδεὶς ὑμᾶς παϱαλογίςηταɩ ϰτλ. C. F. D. Moule (IBNTG, p. 145) points out that this is the imperatival use of ἴνα, not its final (telic) use, in which case the meaning would be: “I am saying this in order that no one may lead you astray.”
15Gk. τὸ στεϱέωμα τῆς εἰς χϱɩστòν πίστεως ὑμῶν, “the solidity of your faith in Christ.” LXX στεϱέωμα is the rendering of Heb. rᾶqîa’, “firmament,” in Gen. 1:6-8. H. Chadwick suggests that the use of this word here, though possibly a military metaphor, may echo the important part played in gnostic thought by the στεϱέωμα or barrier between the upper realm and the lower (“All Things to All Men,” NTS 1 [1954-55], 272-73). See pp. 296-97 with nn. 113-14, on Eph. 2:14.
16Before ἐν εὐϰαϱɩστίᾳ B D2 H and the majority of cursives insert ἐν αὐτῇ (“in it”); ℵ2 D* insert ἐν αὐτῷ (“in him”). P Ψ replace ἐν εὐχαϱɩστίᾳ by ἐν αὐτῇ.
