Chapter 134 of 343

69 Gk. τέϰνα ὑπαϰοῆς.

69 Gk. τέϰνα ὑπαϰοῆς.

67Gk. ὀϱγή. On the divine ὀϱγή in the NT see G. Stählin, TDNT 5, pp. 422-47 (s.v. ὀϱγή); cf. also commentaries on Romans by C. E. B. Cranfield (pp. 108-12) and E. Käsemann (pp. 37-38).

68The locution υἱοὶ τῆς ἀπεɩθείας (cf. Eph. 2:2; 5:6) is probably a Hebraism (like τέϰνα . . . ὀϱγῆς in Eph. 2:3). Deissmann (Bible Studies, E.T. [Edinburgh, 21909], pp. 163-66) is unwilling to call such expressions Hebraisms pure and simple, preferring to regard them as “analogical formations” to similar Hebrew phrases which are rendered literally in the LXX (the distinction does not amount to much).

69Gk. τέϰνα ὑπαϰοῆς.

70Gk. ἐν οἷς ϰαὶ ὑμεῖς πεϱɩεπατήσατέ ποτε. If the phrase ἐπὶ τοὺς υἱοὺς τῆς ἀπεɩθείας be retained, ἐν οἷς means “among whom” (masculine); if it be omitted, ἐν οἷς means “in which” (neuter, referring, like δɩ’ ἃ at the beginning of the preceding clause, to the vices listed in v. 5).
