113Gk. ϰατὰ τὴν δύναμιν τὴν ἐνεϱγουμένην ἐν ἡμῖν. As in Col. 1:29, the question whether ἐνεϱγουμένην should be understood as middle voice (“operates”) or passive (”is inwrought”) is probably to be answered, in accordance with Pauline usage, in favor of the middle (see p. 88, n. 224).

114The expression εỉς πάσας τὰς γενεὰς τοῦ αιѽνος τỉν αỉώνων (“to all the generations of the age of the ages”), in the characteristic style of Ephesians, is unparalleled in the NT; more common is the reduplicated εỉς τοὺς αỉѽνας τѽν αỉώνων (Rom. 16:27; Gal. 1:5; Phil. 4:20; 1 Tim. 1:17; 2 Tim. 4:18; and especially frequent in Revelation). The present use of γενεά in such a locution reflects the similar use of Heb. dôr, as in Ps. 145:13, beḵol dôr wāḏōr, LXX (144:13) ἐν πάσῃ γενεᾷ ϰαί γενεᾷ.
