Section 173
22P. Par. 10; for text and translation see C. F. D. Moule, Colossians and Philemon, pp. 34-36.
23Reproduced in G. H. R. Horsley (ed.), New Documents illustrating Early Christianity (Macquarie University, North Ryde, New South Wales, 1981), pp. 140-41, § 91. The inscription runs: s[ervus sum] Felicis ar(ch)idiac(oni): tene me ne fu-giam,”I am the slave of Felix the archdeacon: hold me lest I run away.” He had probably run away before and been recaptured; before Roman law was christianized he might well have been branded in the face.
