Chapter 332 of 343

19 Cf. Col. 3:22, φοβούμενοɩ τòν ϰύϱɩον.

19 Cf. Col. 3:22, φοβούμενοɩ τòν ϰύϱɩον.

18Gk. μετὰ φóβου ϰαὶ τϱóμου, used here, as in Phil. 2:12, of a proper spirit of Christian reverence.

19Cf. Col. 3:22, φοβούμενοɩ τòν ϰύϱɩον.

20In Didache 4.11 slaves are directed to be subject to their masters “as to the representative of God” (ὡς τύπῳ θεοῦ).

21Heb. beyōšer leḇāḇî.

22J. B. Lightfoot, Colossians and Philemon, p. 228.

23Wisdom 1:1, ἐν ἁπλóτητɩ ϰαϱδίας.

24“At least there are no traces of it earlier”; he compares ὀφθαλμóδουλος in Apostolic Constitutions 4.12 (Colossians and Philemon, p. 228). Seep. 168, n. 206. There is probably no significance in the prepositional variation between ϰατ’ ὀφ-θαλμοδουλίαν here and ἐν ὀφθαλμοδουλίᾳ in Col. 3:22 (cf. W. Munro, Authority in Paul and Peter, p. 32).

25W. Munro concludes that the present passage is a conflation of Gal. 1:10 with Eph. 1:18 (πεφωτɩσμένους τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς τῆς ϰαϱδίας ὑμῶν), Col. 3:22 being then dependent on Eph. 6:6 (Authority in Paul and Peter, pp. 28-29). This is quite improbable.
