18Strabo especially mentions Hieron and the family of the orator Zenon in this regard.

l9The “eye salve” (ϰoλλύϱɩν) of Rev. 3:18 was probably a preparation made from Phrygian stone (Galen, On the Preservation of Health 6.12). The medical school at or near Laodicea was perhaps sponsored by the temple of Mēn Karou some thirteen miles west of the city, but there is no evidence for the theory that Mēn Karou was hellenized as Asklēpios (W. M. Ramsay, Cities and Bishoprics of Phrygia, I, 52).
