213 Cf. Rom. 14:10-12; 1 Cor. 3:12-17; 4:4-5.
213Cf. Rom. 14:10-12; 1 Cor. 3:12-17; 4:4-5.
214In 1 Pet. 4:17 there is probably an allusion to Ezek. 9:4. Cf. also 1 Cor. 11:29-32; Heb. 10:30-31.
215With πϱοσωπολημψία (also in Rom. 2:11; Eph. 6:9; Jas. 2:1) cf. the nomen agentis πϱσωπολήμπτης (Acts 10:34) and the verb πϱοσωπολημπτέω (Jas. 2:9). These compounds are not attested earlier than their NT occurrences; they reflect Heb. nāśā’ pānîm, “lift (someone’s) face,” that is, show someone favor, and hence, in a pejorative sense, show favoritism. In the LXX this was literally rendered by πϱόσωπον λαμβάνω or a similar phrase (e.g., Lev. 19:15; cf. NT Luke 20:21; Gal. 2:6). While no explanatory phrase accompanies οὐϰ ἔστɩν πϱοσωπολημψία here, something like παϱά τῷ θεῷ is implied, as in Rom. 2:11 (οὐ γάϱ ἐστɩν πϱοσωπολημψία παϱὰ τῷ θεῷ); cf. Eph. 6:9, παϱ’ αὐτῷ.
