25 Gal. 3:27; Rom. 6:3.
24On the analogy in this regard between the synagogue and the church see K. L. Schmidt, TDNT 3, pp. 524-26 (s.v. ἐϰϰλησία).
25 Gal. 3:27; Rom. 6:3.
26 The “one body” into which, as Paul tells the Corinthians, “we were all baptized in one Spirit” (1 Cor. 12:13) cannot be restricted to the church of Corinth. When members of the Corinthian church moved to another city and joined another congregation (as Priscilla and Aquila moved from Corinth to Ephesus and back from there to Rome), they remained members of the same body of Christ.
27Although in Rom. 6:5 those who have (baptismally) shared Christ’s death will at some time in the future share his resurrection, yet in Rom. 6:11 they are exhorted to reckon themselves as being already “alive to God in Christ Jesus”; in that sense they have already shared his resurrection (cf. Col. 2:13; 3:1; Eph. 2:5-6).
