Chapter 179 of 343

Gk. ἡ ϰoɩνωνὶα τῆς πίστεώς σoν.

Gk. ἡ ϰoɩνωνὶα τῆς πίστεώς σoν.

Gk. ἡ ϰoɩνωνὶα τῆς πίστεώς σoν.

Cf. M. R. Vincent, ad loc.

Cf. E. Lohmeyer, ad loc.; he takes πίστεως as genitive of origin.

Cf. M. Dibelius, ad loc.

Cf. C. H. Dodd, ad loc.

Cf. Moffatt’s rendering: “their participation in your loyal faith.”

The conjunction ὅπως at the beginning of v. 6 introduces the content of Paul’s prayer.

Gk. ἐνεϱγής.

The repeated “bountifully” renders the repeated ἐπ’ εὺλoγίαɩς (“with blessings”).

Gk. ἐπίγνωσɩς, for which see p. 46 with n. 30 (on Col. 1:9). G. B. Caird (ad loc.) takes the meaning here to be “deeper insight into good to be performed.”

Gk. εἰς πᾶν ἔϱγoν ἀγαθóν, which invites comparison with παντòς ἀγαθoῦ here.

Gk. εἰς Xϱɩστóν.

Gk. τoῦ ἐν ἡμῖν.

That is to give εἰς Xϱɩστóν the sense normally expressed by ἐν Xϱɩστῷ. The change of preposition might be put down to dissimilation from ἐν in the preceding ἐν ἡμῖν. “Paul’s intercessory prayer report may thus be paraphrased: ‘I pray that your generosity, which arises from your faith, may lead you effectively into a deeper understanding and experience of every blessing which belongs to us as fellow-members in the body of Christ’” (P. T. O’Brien, Introductory Thanksgivings, p. 58). It would be difficult to improve on this.
