Amphilochius.

§ 81. Adjacent to Cyprus are the regions of Pamphylia, Lycaonia, Cappadocia, etc. The principal city of Lycaonia was Iconium, where Paul planted a church (Acts 13:51; 14:1; 2 Tim. 3:11). The bishop of the church was Amphilochius, whom Socrates says held the patriarchate of Asia (bk. 5, c. 8). In iambic feet Amphilochius writes to Seleucus: “I shall list for you each book that has come from the Holy Spirit. That you may know the entire matter clearly, I shall first mention for you the books of the first covenant.” Then he lists all the books that the Hebrews count and that our churches recognize as canonical. He omits, however, those about which there is controversy and adds: “This is the perfectly true canon of divinely inspired Scripture.”
