§ 229. Bellarmine, De verbo Dei, bk. 1, c. 9: “It is certain that all these parts of Daniel are truly canonical.” This he argues: (1) From the Council of Trent, sess. 4, and ecclesiastical use. (2) From the testimonies of the ancients. (3) From the Greek version of the Bible, in which those parts are joined to the prophecy of Daniel. It is obvious, however, from what we have said before what we must respond to these petty arguments.
