(6) Baruch is rejected by the more sensible Papists themselves. Johannes Driedo writes (De catal. script., bk. 1, c. 4, ad difficult. 11): “Cyprian, Ambrose, and the other fathers quote statements from the Books of Baruch and 3 and 4 Ezra not as from canonical books but as from books that contain some pious, helpful teachings that are not contrary to our faith but in harmony with it.” Melchior Canus, Locorum, bk. 12, c. 6: “As we have taught in our second book, the Church did not place the Book of Baruch in the number of the sacred books so certainly and firmly such that the verity of the catholic faith would consist in this book being sacred or such that heresy would consist in it not being sacred. Therefore that book or any other that can be called into question without a charge of heresy does not create certain and constant truths of the catholic faith.”
