Bellarmine says that the Book of Tobit was published “in the Chaldaic language” (De verbo Dei, bk. 2, c. 3). But this is uncertain because today it is extant only in the Greek and Latin languages. Jerome says that he saw a Chaldaic copy, but he attributes nothing to it. The Hebrew copy that is extant was prepared by Munsterus from the Greek text.
