The perfection of Scripture.
The perfection of Scripture.
§ 391. Twelfth: “The heretics of this time believe that there is no Word of God except the written Word. Yet this is found nowhere in all of Scripture.” “Where, pray tell, have you found (asks Hector Pintus, commentary on Isaiah 8, p. 94) that one must believe only that which is in Holy Scripture? Read all of it from the beginning of Genesis to the end of Revelation and nowhere will you find such a proposition. Therefore this proposition of yours is not to be believed. If what you say is true, only that is to be believed which is written in the Holy Bible and has been consigned to the divine writings.” We respond. Whatever arguments prove that Scripture is perfect, the same ones also prove that, after the canon of Scripture was published, no new dogmas outside of it are to be accepted or—and this is the same thing—that there is no Word of God except the written Word.
