Fourth, Daniel 12:4.

§ 427. (4) In his commentary on Daniel, f. 903, Pererius presses the argument that “the angel” in Dan. 12:4 “orders him to conceal the prophecy.” We respond. [a] We are by no means claiming that everything without exception in the Holy Scriptures is perspicuous. [b] In the prophets many things are obscure, yet the articles of faith are explained in Scripture in clear and perspicuous words. [c] God is not ordering Daniel to “conceal” his prophecy—which would conflict with His revelation—but to seal it, that is, to keep it safe like a precious object. The words in Hebrew are , which means “to close, to seal,” and , which also means “to stamp, to seal, to confirm with a seal,” just as letters are usually closed and sealed with a seal. The Septuagint translators rendered this [“Stop up the words and seal the book”].72 [d] He expressly adds that this prophecy would be sealed only “until the last times,” for then the outcome, the best interpreter of the the prophecy, will explain it.
