CHAPTER XXVII: ON THE DEFINITION OF SCRIPTURE
§ 539. We can provide a definition of Holy Scripture like this: Holy Scripture is the Word of God, which the prophets, evangelists, and apostles put into writing in accordance with His will, which perfectly and clearly explains the doctrine of the essence and will of God so that from it people may be instructed unto eternal life.
Preserve and sanctify us, O God, in Your truth. “Your Word is truth” (John 17:17). Amen.
