Antithesis: Of the Calvinists.
Antithesis: Of the Calvinists.
§ 393. The perfection of Scripture is weakened obliquely by: (1) The Calvinists, when they not only equate the principles of reason to the revealed Word but even prefer them in matters of the articles of faith. They do this when they oppose articles of faith set forth in perspicuous and open passages of Scripture on the basis of philosophical principles that they have understood and applied poorly. Conradus Vorstius, Anti-Pistor., disp. 15, thesis 1: “The principles [or sources] of faith are twofold: partly natural, partly supernatural. The natural are the senses and reason, as well as all the axioms known by the natural light of reason, that is, which rely on universal experience and at the same time on the correct evidence of reason, to the extent that these are related to the faith.”
