Seventh, from sufficient enumeration.

Seventh, from sufficient enumeration.

§ 445. (VII) From sufficient enumeration. No other certain and sufficient canon has ever been prescribed to us. (1) For this does not fit private and uncertain revelations. 2 Cor. 11:14: “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” Heb. 1:1-2: “In many and various ways God spoke of old, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son.” (2) Nor does this fit the judgment of corrupt reason. 2 Cor. 10:5: “We take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.” (3) Nor does this fit doubtful traditions and an unwritten word. John 21:23: “The saying spread abroad among the brethren that this disciple would not die.” (4) Nor does it fit the voice of pastors absolutely; otherwise we would not have to “test the spirits to see whether they are of God” (1 John 4:1). Therefore the written Word alone is the norm of truth in the Church.
