54:3,4Many of David's psalms follow the pattern found in these two verses—a transition from prayer to praise. David was not afraid to come to God and express his true feelings and needs. Thus, his spirit was lifted, and he praised God, his helper, protector, and friend.

15 For the choir director: A psalm* of David, regarding the time the Ziphites came and saidto Saul, “We know where David is hiding.” To be accompanied by stringed instruments.Come with great power, O God, and rescue me!Defend me with your might.
2Listen to my prayer, O God.Pay attention to my plea.
3For strangers are attacking me;violent people are trying to kill me.They care nothing for God.
4But God is my helper.The LORD keeps me alive!
5May the evil plans of my enemies be turned against them.Do as you promised and put an end to them.
6T will sacrifice a voluntary offering to you;I will praise your name, O LORD,for it is good.

54:5David asked God to repay evil to his enemies. He simply stated his confidence in God's promise. Proverbs 26:27 warns that those who cause trouble will reap trouble. What we have intended for others may blow up in our own face. To be honest and straightforward before God and others is simpler, easier, and safer in the long run.
