CLASSIC SERMON OUTLINES — Alexander Maclaren

IV. THE ETERNITY OF THE WORK AND OF THE PRAISE.

A. The Scriptural Statement.

1. The Authorized Version: "throughout all ages world without end."

2. The literal rendering: "to all generations of the age of the ages."

B. The Meaning of the Scriptural Statement.

1. "To all generations": expressive of duration as long as birth and death shall last.

2. "The age of the ages": pointing to that endless epoch whose moments are ages.

3. The blending of the two expressions: an unconscious acknowledgement that the speech of earth, saturated with the coloring of time, breaks down in the attempt to express the thought of eternity.

C. The Compass of the Statement.

The work is to go on forever and ever and with it the praise. As the _ages which are the beats of the pendulum of eternity come and go, more and more of God's power will flow out to us and more and more of God's glory will be manifested in us.

1. Work.

2. Praise.

CONCLUSION

Let His grace work in you, and yield yourselves to Him, that His fulness may fill your emptiness. A pur >".
