Classic Sermon Outlines (continued)
CLASSIC SERMON OUTLINES — Matthew Henry
3. Indifferent toward creditors. Sinners take no pleasure in hearing from God, in speaking to Him, or in having anything to do with Him.
4, Fearful. Sinners carry about them a misgiving conscience which often reproaches them and fills them with secret terrors and bitterness.
5. Dilatory and deceitful. Bad debtors are apt to promise payment, but break their word. It is so with sinners.
D. The Danger of Debt.
1. An account is kept of all of our debts. If the debtor keeps not an account of his debts, yet the creditor does; they are all kept on record with God.
2. Man is insolvent. We are utterly insolvent and have not the wherewithal to pay our debts.
3. No earthly friend to help. Sinful men have no prospect of help from their fellowmen because they are in the same helpless condition and as deep in debt.
4. Payment demanded. The debts we owe to God are ever and immediately demanded and the right is kept up by a continual claim.
5. Death will arrest us for the debts. Death is our discharge from other debts, but it lays us more open than ever to the debts against God. After death the judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
7. Hell is the destination of debtors. It is a pit of weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth out of which there is no redemption.
