, Laying Up Treasure

C. The Explanation of the Prohibition against Laying Up Earthly Treasure.

1. Earthly treasures should not be considered the best things. We must not count these things the best things, not the most valuable in themselves, nor the most serviceable to us. We must not call them glory, as Laban's sons did (Genesis 31:1), but see and own that they have no glory in comparison with the glory that excelleth (II Corinthians 3:10).

2. Abundance of earthly treasures should not be coveted. We must not covet an abundance of these things nor be still grasping at more and more of them, and adding to them, as men do that which is their treasure, as never knowing when we have enough. our i through life utn not tawith, all for our portion. These things must our good things. Let us consider that we are a up, not for oe in this world, but for ourselves in the other world.

II. GOOD COUNSEL.

A. The Substance of the Counsel.

"Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven." This good counsel is an entreaty to make the joys and glories of the other world, those things not seen that are eternal, our best things and to place our happinessit in them.

B. The Implications of the Counsel.

1. The certainty of the heavenly treasures. There are treasures in heaven as sure as there are on this earth; and those in heaven are the only true treasures, the riches and glories and pleasures that are at God's right hand, which those who are sanctified truly arrive at when they come to be perfectly sanctified in heaven.
