CLASSIC SERMON OUTLINES — Matthew Henry

B. The Importance of the Means.

1. These are necessary because of the perversity of human nature. The best Christians have need to bear one with a one of another; to provoke one another's graces (Hebrews 10:24), and not hei eens hi cet icieieulenieateecnens selves; and therefore, we must not think it much if we find that in others which we think hard to forgive them; and yet we must forgive them as we _ forgive ourselves.

2. These are necessary for the practice of unity. The first step toward unity is humility; without this there will be no meekness, no patience, no forbearance; and without these, no unity. Pride and passion break the peace - and make all the mischief. Humility and meekness restore the peace and keep it. Only by pride comes contention (Proverbs 13:10); only by humility - comes love. The more lowly mindedness, the more like-mindedness. We do not walk worthy of the vocation wherewith we are called if we are not meek and lowly of heart.

II. THE NATURE OF CHRISTIAN UNITY.

A. It Is a Spiritual Unity.

1. The seat of Christian unity. The seat of Christian unity is in the heart. Or spirit; it does not lie in one set of thoughts or in one form and mode of worship, but in one heart and one soul.

2. The producer of Christian unity. This unity of heart and affection is of the Spirit of God; it is wrought by Him and is one of the fruits of the _

Spirit. This we should endeavor to keep. We must do our utmost. If others quarrel with us, we must take all possible care not to quarrel with them. If others will despise and hate us, we must not despise and hate them

B. It Is a Peaceful Unity.

1. The bond of peace unites persons. Peace is a bond which unites persons and makes them live at one with another. a ee tion and conduct bind Ch eth disbandeamdediene Wal ecu cas oa i
