29Proverbs 29
1will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery. 2When the godly are in authority, the people rejoice. But when the wicked are in power, they groan. 3The man who loves wisdom brings joy to his father, but if he hangs around with prostitutes, his wealth is wasted.
4A just king gives stability to his nation,but one who demands bribes destroys it.
5To flatter friendsis to lay a trap for their feet.
6Evil people are trapped by sin,but the righteous escape, shouting for joy.
7The godly care about the rights of the poor;the wicked don’t care at all.
8Mockers can get a whole town agitated,but the wise will calm anger.
9If a wise person takes a fool to court, there will be ranting and ridicule but no satisfaction.
10The bloodthirsty hate blameless people,but the upright seek to help them.*
11Fools vent their anger,but the wise quietly hold it back.
12If a ruler pays attention to liars,all his advisers will be wicked.
13The poor and the oppressor have this in common—the LORD gives sight to the eyes of both.
14If a king judges the poor fairly,his throne will last forever.
15To discipline a child produces wisdom,but a mother is disgraced by an undisciplined child.
16When the wicked are in authority, sin flourishes,but the godly will live to see their downfall.
17Discipline your children, and they will give you peace of mind and will make your heart glad. 18When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is joyful. 19Words alone will not discipline a servant, the words may be understood, but they are not heeded.
20There is more hope for a foolthan for someone who speaks without thinking.
21A servant pampered from childhoodwill become a rebel.
22An angry person starts fights;a hot-tempered person commits all kinds of sin.
23Pride ends in humiliation,while humility brings honor.

29:13“The LORD gives sight to the eyes of both” means that everyone depends on God for sight. Both the oppressor and the poor have the gift of sight from the same God. God sees and judges both, and his judgment falls on those whose greed or power drives them to oppress the poor.
29:15Parents of young children often weary of disciplining them. They feel like all they do is nag, scold, and punish. When you're tempted to give up and let your children do what they want, or when you wonder if you've ruined every chance for a loving relationship with them, remember that kind, firm correction helps them learn, and tearning makes them wise. Consistent, loving discipline will ultimately teach them to discipline themselves.
29:16When the wicked are in leadership, sin prevails. In any organization—whether a church, a business, a family, or a government—the climate comes from the top. The people become like their leaders. What kind of climate are you setting for the people you lead?
29:18“Divine guidance” refers to words from God received by prophets. Where there is ignorance or rejection of God, crime and sin run rampant. Public morality depends on the knowledge of God, but it also depends on keeping God's laws. In order for nations and individuals to function well, people must know God's ways and keep his rules. Having God’s Word means little if we are not obeying it.
29:24This proverb is saying that a thief’s accomplice may not tell the truth when under oath. Thus, by his participation in the crime and his perjury in the courtroom, he will hurt himself. Further, a witness who refuses to report a crime becomes an accomplice.
29:25Fear of people can hamper everything you try to do. In extreme forms, it can make you afraid to leave your home. By contrast, fear of God—respect, reverence, and trust—is liberating. Why fear people who can do no eternal harm? Instead, trust God who can turn the harm intended by others into good for those who trust him.
