Introduction
Judges describes the cycle after Joshua: Israel forgets the Lord, is oppressed, cries out, and is delivered by a judge—then forgets again. Deborah, Gideon, Jephthah, and Samson are mixed deliverers. The closing line, that everyone did what was right in their own eyes, explains the chaos. The book shows both God’s patience and the cost of life without a true king.
