Week 12: The Prophet Isaiah
Week 12: The Prophet Isaiah
We have already referred (in week 9) to the prophet Isaiah, and in particular to his ministry to the reforming King Hezekiah. Now we are to spend the whole of this week in his company, delving into a few of the main themes of his prophetic message. This is introduced in the first verse as “the vision that … Isaiah son of Amoz saw” (Isa. 1:1), which in verse 2 he boldly calls on heaven and earth to listen to. He is conscious that his God-given revelation has cosmic proportions, for in the book’s final chapter his vision has expanded to “the new heavens and the new earth,” which one day God will create (66:22). His message combines both judgment and comfort.
