Week 19: The Fourfold Gospel of Christ
Week 19: The Fourfold Gospel of Christ
It is a wonderful providence of God that we have been given not one Gospel but four (not to mention the so-called apocryphal gospels that were written in the second century to promote a variety of heretical opinions). Jesus Christ is much too great and glorious a person to be captured by one author or depicted from one perspective. The Christ of the Gospels is a person with four faces, a diamond with four facets. We have no liberty either to turn the four into one by ironing out the individuality of each or to turn the one into four by exaggerating the individuality of each.
