Week 32: The Meaning of the Cross
We have been following the dramatic story of the sufferings and death of the Messiah and have listened carefully to his seven words from the cross. This week we are going to delve a bit more deeply into the meaning of his death. Not that we will discover a single explanation of its purpose. On the contrary, the cross is a diamond with many facets. Yet we will try from these to gain a full and balanced understanding of why he died. First, however, we need to grasp the central importance that is attached to the cross in the New Testament and so in the life and witness of the church.
