Week 50: The Heavenly Throne Room
Week 50: The Heavenly Throne Room
With Revelation 4 we turn abruptly from the church on earth to the church in heaven, from Christ among the flickering lampstands to Christ at the very center of the unchangeable throne of God. It is the same Christ but from an entirely different perspective.
John saw before him a door standing open in heaven, and a voice like a trumpet spoke to him: “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this” (Rev. 4:1). It was the open door of revelation, and as John looked through the door, what he saw developed in three stages: firstly, a throne, from which God rules over the universe; secondly, a scroll, the book of history, closed, sealed, and held in God’s right hand; and, finally, a Lamb, as slain, who alone is found worthy to open the scroll, that is, to interpret and control history.
