Glossary

GLOSSARY This is concerned with the text only as edited from A and P. Variants recorded in the critical apparatus are, where necessary, discussed in the footnotes.
The principle of selection has been to gloss only those words which may offer difficulties to modern readers through unfamiliarity of meaning or spelling. Normally only one main entry is recorded, and most inflectional variants of it are ignored. abayde 253.26 note, v.; 'waited' (OE aned 213.19, pa. pa.; 'united' (ME anen, abfdan, abad) ablyth 475.5, v.; 'prepares, fits' (OFr onen <OE an) anehede 220.23, n.; 'unity' (ME an hede, hable, adj.; habiller v.) abone 621.16 note, adv.; 'above' (OE on hede) ane3 234.27, anes 240.29., adv.; 'once' (ME anes, ones) a newyd 529.183 note, pa. pa.; 'newly apa + bufan) abyden 327.30, pa. pa.; 'waited for' (cf. pointed' (<OE niewe) aneynst 418.22 note, a nemptes 537.252, abayde) accorde 261.53, n.; 'agreement' (OFr prep.; 'as regards' (OE on efen) anntre: cf. ane anntre anynge, 249.10 n.; 'union' (ME anen, acord(e) <LLat ad + cord-, 'heart') accordyng 707.8 note, v.; 'attuning' (OFr acorder) adred 512.30, pa. pa.; 'afraid' (OE onen, v.) apayd 382.2, pa. pa.; 'satisfied' (OFr ondraedan) advyce 487.22 note, n.; 'meditation' (OFr apayer) are 243.33, adv.; "before' (OE »r) arneste 228.48, n.; 'seriousness' (OE eoravis) adyght 578.22, pa. pa.; 'assigned' (OE nust) a seeth 596.24 note, n.; 'fulfilment' (OFr a + dihtan) afferdede 245.65, pa. pa.; 'frightened' asset) aseth 247.11, n.; 'atonement' (cf. a seeth) askyth 718.10, v.; 'requires' (OE ascian) assendyd 208.30, v.; 'consented' (OFr (OE a + feran) a fray 276.1, n.; 'sudden attack' (OFr effrei) agayne beyng 471.35 note, n.; 'redempassenter) assey 603.25 note, n.; 'experience' (AFr tion' (OE ongegn, bicgan) a gaynst 665.57 note, adv.; '? with respect asai, OFr essai) atte 203.24, conj.; tylle at: 'until' (cf.
