Salmo 42
Verse 1
Just as the deer looks after the streams of water, so my soul is offended by the soul after the, oh God. Like after a long drought, the poor fainted one. longs for the streams, or rather, like the hunted deer instinctively seeks the river to wash its steaming flanks and escape from the dogs, although my tired and persecuted soul, take care of my Lord God. Excluded from worship. public, David was heartick. He did not seek, honored not to covet, but the the joy of communion with God was an urgent need of his soul; he not only as the sweetest of all luxuries, but as a absolute necessity, like water for a deer. Like the arid traveler in desert, whose skin bottle is empty, and that finds the dry wells, he must drink or die - he must have his God or faint. His soul, he even so, your deeper life was insatiable for a sense of presence divine. As the deer pants, so does his soul pray. Give him his God and he is as happy as the poor deer that finally quenches its thirst and is perfectly happy; but deny your Lord, and your heart stirs, your the chest beats, its entire structure is convulsed, as if breathless, or the pants with long running. Dear reader, do you know what this is, personally feeling the same? It's a sweet bitterness. The next best thing to live by the light of the Lord's love is to be unhappy until having it, and to be in despair every hour - of hour by hour, did I say? thirst is a perpetual appetite, and it must not be forgotten, and yet the desire of God's heart continues. When it is it is as natural for us to desire God as it is for an animal to be thirsty, it is good for our souls, no matter how painful our feelings. We can learn from this verse that the longing of our desires can be claimed with God, and even more, because there are promises special for the importunate and fervent.
Verse 2
My soul. All my nature, my innermost self. Thirst. it is more than hungry; hunger you can alleviate, but thirst is horrible, insatiable, clamorous, mortal. To have the most intense desire after the greater good! this one not it is a questionable mark of grace. For God. Not just for the temple and by the ordinances, but by communion with God Himself. No one, except To be spiritual men, one can empathize with this thirst. For the living God.
Because he lives and gives men the living water; therefore we, with greater anxiety, we wish upon him. A dead god is a mere mockery; we we detest such a monstrous deity; but the ever-living God, the source perennial life and light and love, is the desire of our soul. What are gold, honor, pleasure, but dead idols? May we never be offended by that. When should I to go and appear before God? He who loves the Lord also loves the assemblies where your name is adored. Vain are pretexts for the religion, where the external means of grace have no attraction. David never he was as at home as in the house of the Lord; he was not happy with the private worship; he did not abandon the place where the saints gather, as it's the habit of some. See how pathetically he questions regarding the perspective of your union again in the joyful gathering! As he repeats and reiterate your desire! After your God, your Elohim (your God to be worshipped, that had made a pact with him), he still felt the fallen flowers through the dew, or the turtle moaning for its mate. It's all right if all the our resources for public worship were seen as apparitions before God would then be a mark of grace for us to delight in. Oh, how many They appear before the minister or his peers and think enough! "Seeing the face of God" is a translation closer to Hebrew, but both ideas can be combined - he would see his God and be seen by him: it is worth it to be thirsty!
Verse 3
My tears have been my flesh day and night. Salty flesh, healthier for the soul. When a man reaches tears, tears constants, abundant tears, tears that fill your cup and your cup, he is really sincere. While the big tears were in the eyes of deer in his affliction, the drops of salt sparkled in David's eyes. His appetite is gone, your tears not only seasoned your flesh, but became his only meat, he didn't care about another diet. Maybe it was good for If only the heart could open the safety valves; there is a suffering dry much more terrible than rainy sorrows. Your tears, since they were poured out because God was blasphemed, they were 'honorable dew', drops of holy water, as Jehovah puts in his bottle. While they They continuously tell me: Where is your God? Cruel provocations come. naturally from cowardly minds. Certainly, they could have left the mourning alone; he could not cry more than he - it was a supererogation of wickedness pumps more tears from a heart that already it was transshipping. Note how incessantly his jeer was, and how artistically the They framed him! They cut the good man down to the bone to have the loyalty of his God challenged. It is better that they have stuffed needles in their eyes than they fired insinuations against their God. Simei may be alluded to here. who, after this manner, mocked David when he fled from Absalom. He stated categorically that David was a bloodthirsty man, and that God was punishing him for surpassing Saul and his house; His desire was the father of your thought. The wicked know that our worst unhappiness would be to lose the God's favor, therefore, their devilish malice leads them to declare that such is the case. Glory to God, they are in your throats, for our God is in us heavens, yes, and also in the oven, helping his people.
Verse 4 When I remember these things, I will pour out my soul within me.
When he touched her afflictions, her heart melted into the water and went poured over himself. God hidden, and furious enemies, a couple of enough to bring down the strongest heart! However, why do the so dark reflections elevate us, since the result has no value: only transform the soul into itself, empty it of itself into itself it's useless, how much better to pour out the heart before the Lord! The wheel of the prisoner ’ s journey might land him in the skies earlier than mere Internal questioning brings us closer to comfort. For I had gone with the crowd and I went with them to the house of God. Painful reflections were awakened by the memory of past joys; he had blended into the pious crowd, their numbers helped to give her joy and awaken the holy pleasure, your company had been a charm for him, like with them ascended the hill of Zion. Gently proceeding with sudden tranquility, in graceful procession, with frequent tensions of chant, he and the people of Jehovah they had marched in reverent lines to the sanctuary of the sacrifice, the beloved abode of peace and holiness. Far from such good company, the holy man it depicts the sacred scene and delves into the details of the pious march. With the voice of joy and praise, with a crowd that kept the day. The noise the festive is in your ears and the solemn dance is before your eyes. Perhaps he refers to the removal of the ark and to the glorious gatherings of the tribes at that grand today is a sacred national holiday. How it changed its current place! For Zion, a desert; for the white linen priests, soldiers dressed for war; for the song, the scorn of blasphemy; for the festivity, lamentation; for joy No sir, a funeral lament for your absence.
Versículo 5. Por que você é derrubado, ó minha alma? Como se ele fosse dois men, the psalmist speaks to himself. His faith reasons with his fears, his hope argues with its sorrows. These current problems are for last forever? The joys of my enemies are more than conversations Empty? My absence from the solemn parties is a perpetual exile? Why this deep depression, this fainting without faith, this melancholy of the heart of chicken? As Trapp says, "David reproaches David from the dumps," and here he is a example for all the disheartened. Discover the cause of our sadness usually the best surgery for grief. Self-ignorance is not happiness; in this case it is misery. The fog of ignorance amplifies the causes of our alarm; a clearer vision will cause the monsters to diminish in trivialities. Why are you restless inside me? Why has my silence been although? If I cannot keep a public Saturday, still, why I deny my soul its inner Saturday? Why am I restless like a stormy sea and why my thoughts make noise like a crowd tumultuous? The causes are not sufficient to justify such total surrender to discouragement. My heart! What attends to you? Touch the man, and your defeats They will turn into upliftings, and your anxieties will be calmed. I hope. that you in God. If all evil is let out of Pandora's box, there is still hope at the bottom. This is the grace that swims, despite the waves roaring and they will be disturbed. God is unchangeable and, therefore, His grace is the foundation of unshakeable hope. Even if everything is dark, the day will still come and, meanwhile, hope carries stars in its eyes; her lamps do not depend on outside oil, their light is powered by secret visitations of God, who sustains the spirit. For I will still praise him. Yet, my sighs will give way to songs, my melancholic songs will be exchanged for triumphs are few. A loss of the present sense of God's love is not a loss of this love in itself; the gem is there, although it does not shine in our hearts; I hope she knows her title well when she can't read clearly; she waits for the promised benefit, although the current provision is before her with empty hands. For I will still praise him for the help of his presence.
Greetings come from the favorable face of God, and he will still lift up his countenance. about us. Note well that David's main hope and main desire rests in the smile of God. His face is what he seeks and hopes to see, and this will recover your low spirits, this will disdain your enemies by laughing, this will restore to him all the joys of those holy and happy days in around which the memory remains. This is a great encouragement. This verse, like the song of Paul and Silas, it breaks chains and shakes the prison walls.
He who can use such heroic language in his dark hours it will certainly conquer. In the garden of hope, the laurels grow for future victories, the roses of the coming joy, the lilies of the approaching peace.
Verse 6 O my God, my soul is downcast within me. Here is the song starts again at the bottom. Such a sweet ending deserves that, because of a according to the hopeful, the Psalm must start again. Perhaps the discouragement of the psalmist continued, the spasm of discouragement returned; well, then, he she will descend with her harp again, and will again try her power over herself even, as in his younger days, he saw his influence over Saul when the evil spirit came upon him. With God, the music begins a twice as much as at the beginning. The singer also got a little more calm. The external expression of desire has gone away; there was no visible panting; the sadness was not entirely contained behind closed doors. Inside or within himself he was overthrown; and, in truth, it may well be so, while our thoughts they seem more inside than up. If I were to provide comfort, we we should have a poor provider. There is no solid basis for comfort in frames as fickle as our heart is subject to. It is good to say to the Lord how we feel, and the clearer the confession, the better: David Talk like a sick child to your mother, and we must learn to imitate him.
Therefore, I will remember you. It is good to fly to our God. Here is the dry land. Blessed by a foundation that leads us to such a secure rock refuge concerning you, O Lord! From the hill of Mizar. He recalls his seasons of choice of communion by the river and among the hills, and especially that hour but dear one from the small hill, where love spoke its sweetest language and revealed his closest brotherhood. It is great wisdom to keep in memory our chosen occasions to talk to the sky; we may want another day when the Lord delays in bringing back His exiles, and our soul is aching with fear. "Your love in past times" has been a precious cordial for many fainting; like the gentle breath, it blew the linen smoking in a flame and lit the wounded rush. Oh, to never be forgotten vale of Achor, you are a door of hope! Just days, now you you have left a light behind you that cheers our sadness present. Or David means that, even where he was, he would reveal it from his God; He declares that, forgetting the time and the place, he would consider the Jordan as sacred as Siloam, Hermon as sacred as Zion and even even Mizar, that insignificant and ascending ground as glorious as the mountains that are around Jerusalem! like the gentle breath, blew the smoking linen in a flame and lit the wounded rush. Oh, to never be forgotten vale of Achor, you are a door of hope! Just days, now if You left a light behind you that brightens our sadness. present. Or David means that, even where he was, he would reveal it from his Deus; Ele declara que, esquecendo-se do tempo e do lugar, ele consideraria o Jordan as sacred as Siloa, Hermon as sacred as Zion and even even Mizar, that insignificant and ascending ground as glorious as the mountains that are around Jerusalem! like the gentle breath, it blew the smoking linen in a flame and lit the wounded reed. Oh, to never be forgotten Vale of Achor, you are a door of hope! Just days, now if you left a light behind you that cheers our sadness present. Or David wants to say that, even where he was, he would reveal it from his God; He declares that, forgetting the time and the place, he would consider the Jordan as sacred as Siloah, Hermon as sacred as Zion and even even Mizar, that insignificant and ascending soil as glorious as the mountains that are around Jerusalem! Or David wants to say that, even wherever he was, he would reveal it from his God; He declares that, forgetting about the time and place, he would consider the Jordan as sacred as Siloam, Hermon as sacred as Zion and even Mizar, that ground insignificant and ascending as glorious as the mountains that are to around Jerusalem! Oh! it is a heavenly heart that can sing For me, there is neither place nor time, my country is in every climate; I can be calm and free from worries on any beach, as long as God is there.
I could be shaped where you are not, That was really a terrible pile, More regions that are not remote, professors at this point of the day when the king comes in his glory.
Verses 4-9. Here we have a controversy between the defender and his God.
He has been a tender friend to the poor, and yet, at the time of his need, the promised assistance was not granted. In the case of our Sir, there was a dark and gloomy night when such arguments were indeed consistent with him and his condition.
Verse 4
I said - I said in fervent prayer - Lord, be merciful with me. Prove now your connections with my soul in adversity, since for you have already granted me grace to act freely in my prosperity. None the appeal is made to justice; the petitioner, but hints at the promised reward, but go straight to lay your foundation at the feet of mercy. How Below our Redeemer was brought when such petitions could come from His. reverend mouth, when your lips like lilies fell so fragrant, but Bitter myrrh! Heal my soul. My time of withering has come, now do as you said and strengthen me, especially in my soul.
We must be much more sincere for the healing of the soul than for the ease of the body. We hear a lot about the healing of souls, but often we forgot to worry about this. Because I sinned against you. Here I was the root of sadness. Sin and suffering are inevitable companions. Observe that, according to the psalmist, sin was considered primarily evil because directed against God. This is the essence of true repentance. The Immaculate Salvador could never have used a language like this, the unless there is a reference here to the sin that he took upon himself by imputation; and on our part we tremble to apply words that they manifestly indicate personal sin and not imputed. Applying the petition David and other sinful believers, how strangely evangelical it is argument: I was cured, not because I am innocent, but because I sinned. How the opposite is true for all self-righteous supplicants! How consistent with the grace! How inconsistent with merit! Even the fact that the penitent to confess having remembered the poor is only indirectly instigated, but a direct appeal is made to mercy based on great sin. Oh trembling reader, here is a divinely revealed precedent for you, not I had to follow him.
However, the Lord will command His kindness during the day. Come what there may be 'a certain secret something' to sweeten everything. Kindness is a belt of noble life in a turbulent sea. The day can darken at midnight strange and inappropriate, but the love of God ordained from ancient times to be the portion of the elect will be by sovereign decree for them. Never will a day ever will reach an heir of grace and will find him completely abandoned by your Lord: the Lord reigns and, as sovereign, he will order with authority may mercy be reserved for its chosen ones. And at night. Both the divisions of the day will be illuminated with special love, and no effort of judgment will prevent him. Our God is the God of nights and days; no one will find your Israel unprotected, no matter what time it is. Your music will be Songs of praise for the blessings received will brighten the darkness of the night. No song sweeter than this. The belief that we still must to glorify the Lord for the mercy given in the extremes is a stay pleasant for the soul. 9. I will say to God my rock: Why have you forgotten me? Is it allowed to it is worth inquiring of your God the reasons for your discontent, and it is even authorized to express with him and put it in mind with your promises, and to ask why they apparently are not fulfilled. If the The Lord is indeed our refuge, when we find no refuge, it is time to raise the question: "Why does this happen?" However, we should not be Let go, the Lord must still be my rock; we must remain as our only trust, and never renounce our interest in him. For Why should I lament because of the enemy's oppression? The one who condescends to be pleaded by Abraham, his friend, allows us to place ourselves before him the question of whether we can seek the causes of its severity in relation to we.Certainly he cannot find pleasure in seeing the faces of his servants stained and sordid with their tears; he cannot find no content in the hardness with which your enemies attack you. He never can feel pleasure in the tyranny with which Satan vexes them. Why then does he leave to be ridiculed by their enemies and by theirs? How can it be O strong God, who is as firm and permanent as a rock, to be so hard and indifferent as a rock to those who trust in him? Such humble investigations often provide relief for the soul. Knowing the reason for sadness is, in part, knowing how to escape from it, or at least tolerate it. The lack of consideration often undermines the adversity seems more mysterious and hopeless than it really is. It is a lamentable thing for any man to have a limb amputated, but when we know that the operation was necessary to save a life, we feel happy to know that it was successfully completed; still, as time goes by as the trial unfolds, the design of the Lord becomes much more easy to bear.
Verse 10
Like a sword in my bones, my enemies me we reproach. Cruel slaves cut deeper than flesh, they reach the soul as if a pair of tweezers were introduced between the ribs to pierce the heart. If reprimands do not kill, but are killing, the pain caused is excruciating. The tongue cuts the bone and its wounds are hard to heal.
While they say to me daily, Where is your God? This is the the most unrefined cut of all, reflecting as much as the faithfulness of the Lord and the character of his servant. Such was the wickedness of David's enemies, that having thinking of the cruel question, they said that, they repeated it daily, they repeated it for it is for a long period of time; Certainly the continuous barking of these curses at his heel were enough to drive him mad, and perhaps would have having done this if he had not resorted to prayer and made the persecutions of his enemies a plea to your Lord.
Verse 11
Why have you cast down my soul? And why are you disquieted within me?
In the rehearsal of his sadness, he thinks that, after all, there is not enough reason to be restless. Looked at his face, his fears were not as overwhelming as they seemed when wrapped in darkness. I hope you in God. Leave the anchor still remains firm. God is faithful, God is love, therefore there is space and reason for hope. Who is the health of my countenance and my God? This it is the same hopeful expression found in verse five, but the the addition of and my God shows that the writer was growing in confidence, and was able to respond defiantly to the question: 'Where is your God?'
Here, even here he is ready to free me I am not ashamed of possess it amid your scorn and insults, for he will deliver me from your hands Thus faith concludes the struggle, a true winner by anticipation, and in heart for firm trust. The saddest expression will still be made for to shine, if there is a touch of God in His word and an expectation of your salvation.
For I still know that I will praise Him, that He graciously thanks me.
Health is in my expression Yes, my own God is him.
