    Salmo 29

    Verse 1

Give, that is, attribute. Neither men nor angels can confer something to Jehovah, but they must recognize His glory and power and attribute it to Him in their songs and in their hearts. To the Lord, and only to Him, must be given Honour. The natural causes, as men call them, are God in action, and we should not attribute power to them, but to the invisible infinite, which is the true source of everything. Oh powerful one. You, great ones of the earth and the sky, kings and angels, participate in the worship of the blessed and unique ruler; you, lords among men, they need to be remembered, as they often fail where the humble men are ardent; but do not fail any longer, bow your heads at once, and faithfully pay homage to the King of kings. With what frequently the grandes and powerful believe that, below them, there are those who fear them Lord; but when they are led to exalt Jehovah, their mercy has been the the greatest jewel of His crowns. Give glory and strength to the Lord, which men they are very apt to claim for themselves, although they are prerogatives exclusive to the God who exists by Himself. Leave crowns and swords recognizing your dependence on God. Not to your weapons, o kings, give to you the glory, do not seek strength for your warrior troops, for all your the pump is just like a flower that fades, and your power is like the shadow that declines. When will the day come when kings and princes will tell their pleasure in glorifying your God? "All worship be only for God" may this be emblazoned on all coats of arms. Leave crowns and swords recognizing your dependence on God. Not to your weapons, O kings, give you the glory, do not seek strength for your troops of warriors, for all your the pump is just like a flower that fades, and your power is like the shadow that declines. When will the day come when kings and princes will tell their pleasure in glorifying your God? "All worship is only for God" let this be stamped on all coats of arms. Leave crowns and swords recognizing your dependence on God. Not to your weapons, oh kings, give yourself to the glory, do not even seek strength for your warrior troops, for all your the pump is just like a flower that fades, and your power is like the shadow what declines. When will the day come when kings and princes will tell their pleasure in glorifying your God? "All worship be only for God." may this be emblazoned on all coats of arms. let this be emblazoned on let this be stamped on every coat of arms.

    Verse 2

Give to the Lord the glory due to His name. A third time to admonition is given, for men are late in glorifying God, and especially the great men, who are often very swollen with its own glory to save time to give God your praise legitimate, although nothing is asked of them. more fair and right. Certainly the men do not need to pressure so much to give what is due, especially when the payment is so pleasant. Disbelief and mistrust, complaining and murmuring, they steal from God His honor; in this respect, even the saints fail to give due glory to their king. Worship the Lord, bow down before him with devout homage and sacred fear, and leave your worship be as he designates. In the past, the worship was ceremonial and the men gathered around a dedicated building, solemn pomp was emblematic of the beauty of holiness; but now our worship is spiritual, and the architecture of the house and the garments of the worshippers are topics without importance; the spiritual beauty of inner purity and outer holiness is much more precious in the eyes of our three times holy God. The purpose is that the grace always adored with holy reasons and in a holy manner, as if Come back, saints! The call to worship in these two verses coincides with the loud thunder, which is the bell of the church of the universe ringing for kings and angels, and all the children of the earth for their devotions.

    Verse 3

The voice of the Lord is over the waters. The thunder is not just poetically, but instructively called "the voice of God", once que é pronunciado do alto; ultrapassa todos os outros sons, inspira admiração, is completely independent of man and has been used on some occasions like the great accompaniment of God's speech to the children of Adam. There is a peculiar terror in a storm at sea, when the depths deep, and the rough sea echoes to the angry sky. No sight more alarming as the lightning around the ship's mast; and no sound but calculated to inspire reverent admiration than the roar of storm. The children of heaven have often enjoyed the turmoil with humble joy peculiar to the saints, and even those who do not know the Gods were forced into an involuntary reverence as the storm durou. The glory of God thunders. The thunder is not, in fact, a mere phenomenon. electrical, but it is caused by the intervention of God Himself. Even the old pagan He spoke of Jupiter Tonans; but our wise modern men will make us to believe in laws and forces, and anything or nothing, so they can free themselves from God. Electricity by itself cannot do anything; it must be called and sent on your mission; and until the Almighty Lord commissions it, a fire beam is inert and powerless. Thus, a granite stone can also be, or a bar of iron flying in the middle of the sky, like lightning without being sent by the great First Cause. The Lord is in many waters. Still thus, the psalmist's ear does not hear the voice of Jehovah, resounding from the numerous and dark waters of the upper ocean of the clouds, and echoing from the countless waves of the storm thrown down by the sea. The waters above and Beneath the firmament, they are astonished by the eternal voice. When the Spirit Saint makes the divine promise to be heard above the many waters of the anguish of our soul, then God is as glorious in the spiritual world as in the universe of matter. Above us and below us, everything is the peace of God when he gives us silence.

    Verse 4

The voice of the Lord is powerful. An irresistible power responds to the lightning of that the thunder is the report. In an instant, when the Lord wills, the force of Electricity produces surprising results. A writer about this. subject, speaks of these results as including a light of the intensity of the sun in its strength, a heat capable of melting the most compact metals, a force at a moment paralyzing the muscles of the most powerful animals; power that suspends all gravity of the earth and an energy capable of decompose and recombine the most intimate affinities of the combinations intimate. Well, Thompson speaks of the "unconquerable ray", for he is the head of the ways of God in physical forces, and no one can measure His power. As the voice of God in nature is so powerful, so it is in grace; the reader will do well in drawing a parallel, you will find much in the gospel that can be illustrated by the Lord's thunder in the storm. His voice, whether in nature or revelation shakes the earth and the sky; See that you do not reject the one who speaks. If the voice delete for so powerful, what must your hand be! Be careful not to provoke a blow. The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is full of Majesty. The king of kings speaks like a king. Like when a lion roars, everyone the forest animals are motionless, thus the earth is silenced and mute while Jehovah thunders marvelously.

It is to listen to fear and stupid astonishment from everyone.

Regarding the written word of God, its majesty is apparent both in its style, your material and your power over the human mind; blessed be God, it is the majesty of mercy wielding a silver scepter; Of such majesty the the word of our salvation is full of overflowing.

    Verse 5

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars.

Black from the above blow, the burning pine is on a sad trunk and torn apart.

Noble trees fall prostrate under the mysterious lightning, or remain in desolation as reminders of its power. Lebanon itself is not safe, tall as it is, and ancient as its venerable forests: Yes, the Lord break the cedars of Lebanon. The greatest and most venerable of trees or of men cannot rely on immunity when the Lord is in His wrath. The the gospel of Jesus has a domain similar to the most inaccessible of mortals; and when the Lord sends the word, it breaks even the strongest hearts than the cedars.

    Verse 6

He makes them leap like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion likes a young unicorn. Not just the trees, but the the mountains themselves move as if they were searched and jumped like young bulls or antelopes. As our own poets would mention hills and valleys known to them, the psalmist hears the roar and rumble among the strips of Lebanon, and describes the turmoil in graphic terms. Thus sings one of our own compatriots: - "Among the mountains of Carnavon is It enrages high, the roaring echo: with a powerful thunder in the depths of rough rocks of Penmaen Mawr, piled up in the sky, To knock down the wounded cliffs; and the peak of Snowdon, Dissolver, instantly, produces its winter load.

Long seen, the heights of Cheviot call, In Thule, it flew across its largest islands.

The glorious gospel of the blessed God has more than equal power over the rocky obstinacy and the mountainous pride of man. The voice of our dying Lord rented the stones and opened the graves: his living voice still it works like wonders. Glory to your name, the hills of our sins leap to your grave and are buried in the red sea of your blood, when the voice of your intercession is heard.

    Verse 7

The voice of the Lord divides the flames of fire. Like when sparks they strike the anvil with blows from a heavy hammer, the lightning accompany the thundering blows of Jehovah. "At first I heard solemnly about the edge of the sky, The storm echoes; but as it comes closer, It rolls its horrible burden in the wind, The lightning shows a larger and more The noise haunts: even above a leaf of livid flame reveals wide; so close and open wider; close and open even Expansive, involving the ether in a fire.

O trovão parece dividir um flash do outro, interpondo seu rugido profundo between the flash that precedes it and the next. That the flashes are truly flames of fire are often witnessed by them falling on houses, churches, etc., and involving them in a fire. How easily could the Lord destroy your rebellious creatures with your hot rays! How graceful It is the hand that spares such great offenders, when crushing them would be so easy!

Flames of fire respond to the voice of God in the gospel, illuminating and melting the hearts of men: for those he consumes our luxuries and ignites in us a sacred flame of love and holiness always aspirants. Pentecost is a suggestive commentary on this verse.

    Verse 8

As the storm traveled, it exploded over the desert. The voice of The Lord shakes the desert; the Lord satisfies the desert of Kadesh. God does not court. the applause of men - their greatest acts are done where the inquisitive gaze of man is entirely unknown. Where no sound of man has been heard, the the voice of God was terribly distinct. The vast and silent plains they trembled with worry. The silence honored the voice of the Almighty.

Low plains must hear the voice of God and the high mountains; both the the poor as the powerful must recognize the glory of the Lord. Places solitary and barren should be comforted by the heavenly sound of the gospel.

What tremendous and subverted power there is in the word of God! Even the desert the conservative trembles at progress when God decrees it.

Verse 9: The voice of the Lord makes the young give birth, those timid creatures, In the mortal fear of the storm, they release their burdens in a way premature. Perhaps a better reading is: "the oaks tremble," especially because this agrees with the next sentence and discovers the forests. The dense shadows of the forest are lit with a sinister glow of lightning, and even the darkest recesses are, for a moment, discovered.

The dark woods Start with the flash, and from its deep abandoned recesses, its prisoners trembling trembles.

Our first parents sought refuge among the trees, but the voice of The Lord soon found them and made their hearts tremble. There is no the concealment of the fiery gaze of the Almighty - a flash of His eye Furious transforms at midnight at noon. The gospel has a power. revealing similar in dark hearts, in a moment when it illuminates every dark corner of the iniquity of the heart, and makes the soul tremble before the Lord. In your temple, everyone speaks of your glory. Those who were worshiping in the temple they were led to speak of the greatness of Jehovah when they heard the repeated thunders. The whole world is also a temple for God, and when he rides on the wings of the wind, all things are vocal in your praise. We also, the redeemed of the Lord, who are living temples for your Spirit, as we see the wonders of your power in creation, and feel his grace, unite to magnify his name. No language can be change in the temple of God when His glory is the theme. The original seems to have the the force of "everyone cries Glory", as if all things were moved by the sense of God's majesty to cry out in ecstasy: 'Glory,' "glory." Here is a good precedent for our Methodist friends and for the zealous Welsh gogonists.

    Verse 10

The Lord is sitting on the flood. The flood follows the storm, but Jehovah is ready for the emergency. No flood can undermine the foundation of his throne. He is calm and indifferent, no matter how the depths may roar and be disturbed: your government governs the most unstable and turbulent of the created things. Far from the desert of waters, Jehovah plant your steps in the sea and ride over the storm. Yes, the Lord is seated forever for the King. Jesus has the government upon his shoulders eternally: our interests in the stormiest times are safe in your hands. Satan is not a king, but Jehovah is Jesus; therefore let us worship him and we should always rejoice.

    Verse 11

Power was displayed in the hurricane whose course this Psalm so grandly photos; and now, in the cool calm after the storm, this power is promised as the strength of the chosen. He who raises the infallible bolt.

He will give the redeemed the wings of eagles; He who shakes the earth with His voice will terrify the enemies of your saints and bring peace to your children. Why Are we weak when we have divine strengths to escape? Why are we disturbed when the very peace of the Lord is ours? Jesus, the mighty God, it is our peace - what a blessing this is today! What a blessing it will be for us on that day of the Lord who will be in darkness and not in light for the wicked! Dear reader, do not Is this a noble psalm to be sung in stormy times? Can you singing in the midst of thunder? Will you be able to sing when the last thunder is released, and Jesus judges quickly and dead? If you are a believer, the the last verse is your inheritance, and surely this will make you sing.
