    Salmo 38

    Verse 1

O Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger. I must be rebuked, for I am a wandering child and a caring Father, but do not throw a lot of anger in the tone of your voice; deal gently, although you have sinned. severely. I can endure the anger of others, but not yours. Like yours love is sweeter for my heart, then your heartbreak is sharper for my conscience. Nor punishes me in your warm displeasure. PunishIf you want, it is a prerogative of the Father, and to bear it obediently is the duty of a child; but do not return the rod to the sword, not to hurt. It is it's true that my sins can very well inflame you, but let the your mercy and long-suffering extinguish the bright coals of your wrath. Do not let me be treated like an enemy or treated like a rebel. Bring to remember your covenant, your fatherhood, and my weakness, and spare the servant.

    Verse 2

Because your arrows cling to me. With this, he means bodily and spiritual sorrows, but we can suppose, especially the last, for they are the most penetrating and the fastest. The law of God applied by the Spirit to the conviction of the soul of sin, it deeply wounds and it irritates a lot; it is an arrow that should not be lightly brushed by a imprudent joy, or to be extracted by the flattering hand of self-justice. The Lord knows how to shoot in such a way that his bolts not only attack, but they can also get stuck. He can make the convictions sink into deeper spirit, like arrows directed to the head. It seems strange. that the Lord shoots at His own beloved, but in reality, He shoots at your sins instead of theirs, and those who feel their sin killing arrows in this life will not be killed with their hot rays in the next world. .And your hand presses me. The Lord even closed relations with he pressed him with the weight of his hand, so that he would not have rest or strength. Through these two expressions, we are taught that the conviction of sin is a penetrating and pressing thing, sharp and painful, hurting and overwhelming. Those who know by experience "the terrors of the Lord" will be more able to attest to the accuracy of such descriptions; they are faithful to life.will be more capable of ensuring the accuracy of such descriptions; they are faithful to life.will be more capable of ensuring the accuracy of such descriptions; they are faithful to life.

    Verse 3

There is no soundness in my flesh because of your anger. The depression. mental relies on the body structure; it is enough to create and foster all the diseases, and it is in itself the most painful of all diseases. The disease of the soul counts the whole picture; weakens the body and then the bodily weakness reacts to mind. A drop of divine anger makes all our blood boil with the misery.

There is no rest in my bones because of my sin. More deeply the disease penetrates, until the bones, the most the system's solids are affected. No solidity and no rest are two sad deficiencies; however, both are consciously abandoned of all awakened conscience until Jesus gives relief. The wrath of God is a fire that dries the marrow; He seeks the secret parts of the belly.

A man who has pain in his bones throws himself back and forth in search of rest, but finds none; he wears himself out with agony and, in In many cases, a feeling of sin creates a restlessness in the conscience. horrible that cannot be exceeded in anguish, except by hell itself.

    Verse 4

For my iniquities are upon my head. Like waves of the deep sea; like black mud in which a man sinks completely.

Above my hopes, my strength, my own life, my sin increases in your terror. The unawakened sinners think that their sins they are mere shallows, but when consciousness is awakened they discover the depth of iniquity. Like a heavy burden, they are too heavy for me. It is okay when sin is an unbearable burden, and when the the remembrance of our sins overwhelms us beyond perseverance. This the verse is the genuine cry of someone who feels undone by their transgressions and still does not see the great sacrifice.

    Verse 5

My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my madness.

Apply this to the body and portray a sad condition of illness; but read it from the soul and it is for life. The consciousness is deposited in the layer after the layer, until the swelling becomes a wound and extinguishes, and the internal corruption becomes offensive. What a horrible creature man seems to be in his own conscience when its depravity and vileness are fully unveiled by the law of God, applied by the Holy Spirit! It is true that there are diseases that are correctly described in this verse, when in the worst phase; but we prefer to receive the expressions as figuratively instructive, once they "the words 'because of my madness' point more to a moral disease" than physics. Some of us know what it is to smell in our own nostrils, in order to hate us. Even the most filthy diseases cannot be so ruins as much as sin. No ulcers, cancers or putrefied wounds we can equal the indescribable vile and the pollution of iniquity. Our own perceptions made us feel this. We write what we know and we testify to what we have seen; and even now we tremble at the thought that much evil should be deeply infusing our nature.

    Verse 6

I am disturbed. I am weary of anguish, writhing in pain, of labor pains because of the sin revealed within me. I am very downcast. I am brought very low, seriously weakened and terribly depressed. Nothing pulls a man down from the very top like a feeling of sin and divine wrath towards him. I will mourn the day The sorrow of the grieving soul knew no intermission, even when he was devoted to such business as he was able to participate in, he he left like a mournful person going to the grave, and his words and manners were like the lamentations of those who follow the corpse. The whole verse can it is more clearly understood if we imagine the grieving Oriental, covered with sackcloth and gray, curved like a pile, situated in the midst of misery and dirt, performing contortions and expressive contortions of its How dreadful is the awakened sinner, not in outward appearance, but in reality.

    7. My loins are filled with a repugnant disease - a disorder hot, dry and dehydrated, probably accompanied by ulcers repugnant. Spiritually, the fire burns inside when the evil of the heart is undressed. Observe the emphatic words, evil is repugnant, it is in us loins, your seat is deep and vital - the man is full of it. Those those who went through the time of condemnation understand all of this. And there is no solidarity in my flesh. This he had said before, and thus the Holy Spirit bring forth again and again the humiliating truth for our memories, tear each land of glory and makes us know that in us, that is, in our flesh, not there is nothing good.

    Verse 8

I am weak. The original is 'numb', or frozen, such strange incongruities and contradictions are found in a mind distracted and a sick body - it seems to be alternately dried out by the heat is compressed by the cold. Like the souls of the papal purgatory, thrown out of burning ovens in thick ice, hearts so tormented run from one from one extreme to the other, with the same torture in each. A heat of fear, a shudder of horror, a burning desire, a horrible insensitivity - by these successive miseries, a convicted sinner is led to death. And in pain broken. Crushed like in a mill, crushed like in a mortar. The the body of the sick man seems to be all disordered and crushed in a pulsating pulp, and the soul of despair is in an equally unhappy case; like a victim crushed under the Juggernaut's car, such is a soul above whose conscience the wheels of divine wrath forced their terrible way. I I have roared because of the restlessness of my heart. Deep and hoarse is the voice of sadness, often inarticulate and terrible. The heart learns moans that cannot be uttered, and the voice falters in toning and tuning in to human speech. When our prayers seem to be more animals than spiritual ones, they are no less prevalent with the merciful Father of mercy. He hears the murmur of the heart and the the roar of the soul because of sin, and in due time he comes to relieve your afflicted. The closer the previous portrait of an awakened soul is studied in light of experience, its apparent precision will appear more. Not it can be a description of the disorder merely exterior, graphic as it could be; there is a depth and a pathetic quality to it that only the agony mysterious and terrible of the soul can completely combine.

Verse 9: Lord, all my desire is before you. If it is not detected, still perceived. Blessed be God, he reads the longings of our hearts; nothing can be hidden from it; what we cannot say to he, he understands perfectly. The psalmist is aware that he does not he exaggerated and, therefore, appeals to heaven for a confirmation of his words. The A good doctor understands the symptoms of our illness and sees the hidden harm that they cause. reveal, that ’ s why our case is safe in your hands. And my moan does not is hidden from you.

He takes the meaning of our tears, The language of our moans.

Sadness and anguish hide from man's observation, but God them spy. No one more lonely than the sinner with a broken heart, yet has the Lord as your companion.

    Verse 10

My heart huffs. Here begins another tale of woe. He was so terribly distressed by the cruelty of friends, that his heart was in a state of perpetual palpitations. Sharp and rapid were the beats of his heart; it was like a hunted egg, full of distressing alarms, and ready to fly with fear. The soul seeks sympathy in sadness, and if not finding none, your aching heart beats incessantly. My force me fails. With the illness and the distraction, he was weakened and ready to expire. A feeling of sin and a clear perception that no one can help us in our suffering are enough to lead a man to death, especially if there is no one to say a kind word, and pointing the broken spirit to the beloved Doctor. As for the light of my eyes, also faded away from me. Sweet light left from your bodily eye, and console disappeared from your soul. Those who were the very light of your eyes had abandoned her. Hope, the last lamp of the night, was ready. to go out. What a situation the poor condemned one was in! However, here we have some of us; and here we should have perished, if there had not been infinite mercy interposed. Now, when we remember the kindness of the Lord, we see how good it was for us to find our own strength, as it led us to strong for the strength; and how right it was that our light would go out, so that the the light of the Lord be everything in all of us. When we remember the the kindness of the Lord, we see how good it was for us to find our own strength, for it took us to the strong for strength; and how correct it was that if our light were to go out, so that the light of the Lord would be everything to everyone us. When we remember the kindness of the Lord, we see how good it was to find our own strength, as it led us to the strong for strength; and how right it was that our light should go out, so that the light of the Lord could shine. everything in all of us.

    Verse 11

My lovers and my friends are far from my pain.

Whatever affection they may pretend, they keep themselves out of your company, so that, like a ship that sinks, it often attracts boats with him, they are compelled to suffer from their calamities. It is very difficult when those who should be the first to rescue are the first to abandon us. In times of deep anguish, even the more affectionate friends cannot enter in the case of the sufferer; let them be as anxious as they can be, the wounds of a tender conscience cannot to connect. Oh, the loneliness of a soul passing under the convincing power of Holy Spirit! And my relatives are far away. Like the women and others friends of our Lord, from afar, contemplated his cross, thus a wounded soul by sin sees all of humanity as distant spectators, and in the whole crowd does not find anything to help. Often the Parents hinder seekers after Jesus, yet they still look. with indifference, they rarely make enough effort to lead the penitent to Jesus.

    12. Those who seek my life also ensnare me in traps. Alas! for we, when, in addition to internal afflictions, are tormented by temptations external. David's enemies tried to conquer him. If means the just do not bring him down, the foul must be judged. This business is vile, the the devil's own hunters condescend to him; but prayer to God allows us will free, for the office of the entire college of tempters can be found and overcome by those who are led by the Spirit. Those who seek my sorrow speaks malicious things. Lies and slanders poured out of them like water from the city pump. Your tongue is forever gone, and your heart always inventing lies. And imagine deceiving all day. They were never made, your forge was going from morning to night. When they couldn't act, they talked and, when they could not speak, they imagined, plotted and Worry is the activity of malice. Evil men never have the enough of the evil. They compass sea and land to wound a saint; none work is very severe, no cost is too great if they can destroy totally the innocents. Our comfort is that our glorious Head knows the relevant malice of our enemies, and in due time will place a In the end, as he himself now sets a limit on this.

    Verse 13

But I, like a deaf man, did not hear. Well and bravely that was done. A sacred indifference to the slanders of malevolence is the true courage and sensible politics. It's good to act as if we couldn't hear or Perhaps the psalmist means that this deafness on his part was inevitable. because he had no power to respond to the provocations of the cruel, but I felt very much the truth of your ungracious accusations. And I was like mute man, who does not open his mouth. David was bravely silent, and here it was eminently typical of our Lord Jesus, whose wonderful silence before Pilate was much more eloquent than words. To abstain from self-defense is generally more difficult and often wiser.

    Verse 14

Thus, I was like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth there is no there are reprimands. He repeats the fact of his silence so that we can observe lo, admirá-lo e imitá-lo. Nós temos um advogado, e não precisamos, portanto, defend our own cause. The Lord will rebuke our enemies, for the vengeance belongs to him; we can, therefore, wait patiently and finding our strength to stand still.

    Verse 15

David committed himself to the one who judges with righteousness, and thus, with patience, was able to possess her soul. The hope in God's intervention and the belief in the power of prayer are the two most blessed permanences of the soul in times of adversity. Turning around immediately from the creature to the sovereign Lord of all, and for him as our own God of the covenant, we will find the richest comfort in waiting for him. Reputation as a beautiful pearl can be thrown in the mud, but in Due to time, when the Lord makes His jewels, the godly character must shine with splendor without clouds. Rest then, oh calumny one, and do not leave your soul being tossed back and forth with anxiety.

    16. Because I said: hear me, so that they do not rejoice over me. The good the man was not insensitive, he feared the sharp stings of mocking malice; he feared that, whether because of his conduct or his condition, he could give occasion for the wicked to triumph. This fear that their sincere desires are used as an argument in prayer, in addition to an incentive for prayer. When my foot slips, they grow stronger against me. The slightest flaw in a saint will certainly be noticed; Long before reaching a fall, the enemy start to tread, the mere journey of the foot puts all the dogs of hell barking. How careful we must be and how intrusive in praying to maintain the grace! We do not wish, like the blind Samson, to play sports for our enemies; let us be careful of the treacherous Delilah of sin, through whom Our eyes may soon be extinguished.

    17. I am ready to stop. Like someone who limps, or a person with stumbling steps, risking falling. How well this suits everyone we. "He who thinks he stands, take heed lest he fall." How small What will a Christian be, how insignificant the stumbling block can make with. let him fall! This passage refers to a weakness caused by pain and by sadness; ready to give up in despair, he was so depressed in spirit that he stumbled over a straw Some of us painfully know what it is to be like dry bait for the sparks of sadness, ready to stop, ready to mourn, and I sigh and cry on any occasion, and for any cause, and my sadness is continually before me. He didn't need to looking out the window to find sadness, he felt it inside, and groaned under a body of sin that was a growing plague for him. Deep. conviction continues to irritate the conscience; it will not endure a patched-up peace; mas grita guerra à faca até que a inimizade seja morta. Até que o Espírito Saint, apply the precious blood of Jesus, a truly sinful person. awakened is covered with raw wounds that cannot be healed nor tied, nor softened with ointment.

    Verse 18

For I will declare my iniquity. The slander of your he repudiates his enemies, but he admits the accusations of his conscience. A open confession is good for the soul. When sadness leads to recognition sincere and penitent of sin, it is a blessed sadness, something to to thank God with all devotion. I will feel very sorry for my sin.

My confession will be salty with salty tears. It's good not that much. to lament our sorrows as well as to denounce the sins that are at their root.

Lamenting over sin is not atonement for it, but it is the right spirit. to repair Jesus, who is the reconciliation and the Savior. A man is near the end of your problem when it comes to an end with your sins.

    19. But my enemies are alive and strong. No matter how weak and dying I may be.

As just as it may be, the evils that oppose it will certainly be quite enough. alive. Neither the world, nor the flesh, nor the devil, are always distressed with weakness or inertia; this trinity mistreats work with a powerful uninterrupted energy to bring us down. If the devil were sick, or the our weak lust, or Madame Sick Bubble, we could loosen the prayer; but with enemies so alive and vigorous, we must not cease to to cry powerfully to our God. And those who hate me unjustly are multiplied. Here is another misery, for as we are no match for our enemies in strength, they also outnumber us by a hundred to Um. Wrong as the cause of evil is, it is a popular. More and more the kingdom of darkness grows. Misery of miseries, we see the professed friends of Jesus abandoning, and the enemies of his cross and his cause gathering in bands increasing!

    20. Those who turn good into evil are also my adversaries. Such a A wise man would wish for his enemies to be. Why should we seek being loved by such soulless beings? It is a beautiful appeal against our enemies when can we, without injustice, declare them as the devil, whose nature is turning evil into good. Because I follow what is good. If men to us they hate for this reason, we can rejoice for enduring it: their anger is the unconscious tribute that the vice pays to virtue. This verse is not inconsistent with the writer's previous confession; we may feel equally guilty before God and yet be entirely innocent of any error to our fellow beings. It is a sin to acknowledge the truth, well another thing to submit to being denied. The Lord can to hurt me justly and yet I can say to my neighbor: 'Why Do you annoy me?

    21. Do not abandon me, O Lord. Now is the time when I need you the most.

When sickness, slander and sin, all tormented by a saint, he he requires special help from heaven, and he must have it too. He is not afraid of nothing while God is with him, and God is with him forever. No stay away from me. Do not hold back the light of your intimate and dear love. Revealto me. Stay by my side. Let me feel that, although without friends, I I have a very graceful friend and enough in you.

    22. Hurry to help me. The delay would prove destruction. The poor defender was far away and ready to expire, only quick help would serve its turn.

See how sadness accelerates the interruption of prayer! Here is one of the sweet results of affliction, gives new life to our request and drives us forward with anxiety for our God. O Lord my salvation. Not my savior only, but my salvation. Those who have the Lord by their side there is salvation in current possession. Faith anticipates the blessed matter of all your requests and, in this verse, begins to attribute to God the glory of expected mercy. We will not be forsaken by the Lord. His grace us will help more promptly, and in heaven we will see that we did not have many trials, or a pain too severe. A feeling of sin is will melt in the joy of salvation; sorrow will lead to gratitude, and gratitude to joy indescribable and full of glory.
