Salmo 18
Verse 1
"I will love you, O Lord". With strong and sincere affection I will cling to you; like a child to their parents, or a spouse to their husband. the word is intensely forced, love is of the deepest kind. "I will "to love with desire, with my most intimate guts." Here is a fixed resolution to remain in the closest and most intimate union with the Most High. Our triune God deserves the warmest love from all of us. hearts. Father, Son, and Spirit have a right to our love. The solemn the purpose of never stopping to love naturally stems from the current fervor of affection. It is wrong to make hasty resolutions, but when done with the the strength of God is wiser and more suitable. "My strength." Our God is the strength. of our life, our graces, our works, our hopes, our conflicts, our victories. This verse is not found in 2 Samuel 22, and it is a very precious addition, placed above everything and ultimately to form the pinnacle of the temple, the apex of the pyramid. Love is still the grace of the crown.
Verse 2
"The Lord is my rock and my fortress." To dwell among the cliffs and the mountainous fortresses of Judea David had escaped from the malice of Saul, and here he compares his God to such a place of concealment and security. Believers are often hidden in their God from language dispute and the fury of the storm of problems. The cracks of Rock of Ages are safe havens. "My redeemer," interposing in my time of danger. When nearly captured, the people of the Lord are rescued from hand of the powerful by the one who is even more powerful. This title of "Liberator" has many sermons, and is worthy of the study of all saints. experienced. "My God;" this is all good in one. There is a wealth without limits in this expression; it means my eternal, unchangeable, infinite good and perpetual. He who can truly say 'my God,' can well add my rock, in the sense of strength and immobility. My confidence and support eternal, unchanging and eternal. the word rock appears twice, but it is not tautology, for the first time it is a rock for concealment, but here a rock para firmeza e imutabilidade. "Em quem eu confiarei." A fé deve ser exercised, or the preciousness of God is not truly known, and God must be the object of faith, or faith is mere presumption. 'My buckler', deflecting the blows of my enemy, protecting myself from arrows or sword. Thus, the word rock occurs twice, but it is not tautology, by the first time is a rock to cover, but here a rock for firmness and immutability. "In whom will I trust." Faith must be exercised, or the the preciousness of God is not truly known; and God must be the object of faith, or faith is mere presumption. "My shield", warding off the blows of my enemy, protecting me from arrow or sword. Thus, the word rock it occurs twice, but it is not a tautology, the first time it is a rock for to cover, but here a rock for firmness and immutability. "In whom I confiarei." A fé deve ser exercida, ou a preciosidade de Deus não é truly known; and God must be the object of faith, or faith is mere presumption. "My shield", deflecting the blows of my enemy, protectinggive me arrow or sword.
The Lord provides His warriors with offensive and defensive weapons. Our arsenal is completely stored so that none need to go to the unarmed battle. 'The horn of my salvation', allowing me to overthrow my enemies and triumph over them with holy exultation. "My high tower", a high citadel planted on a rocky eminence beyond reach of my enemies, from the heights I look down on your fury without alarm, and inspect a wide landscape of mercy, reaching even the good land beyond the Jordan. Here are many words, but they are not many; we could fruitfully examine each of them if we had time free, but summarizing it all, we can conclude with Calvino that David equips the faithful from head to toe.
Versículo 3: Neste verso, o feliz poeta resolve invocar o Senhor em alegre song, believing that in all future conflicts your God would deal so be good with him as in the past. It is good to pray to God as to one who deserves it. to be praised, for then we ask in a happy and confident way. If I feel that I can and bless the Lord for all His goodness in the past, I have courage to ask great things of him. This word has a lot of that. To be saved, to sing is to be saved indeed. Many are saved lamenting and doubting; but David I had so much faith that I could fight singing and win the battle with a song still on your lips. How happy it is to receive a new mercy with a sensitive heart to mercy, and to anticipate new trials with confidence based on past experiences of divine love!
Not fearing or doubting with Christ by our side, We hope to die screaming: 'The Lord will provide.'
Verses 4-19. In most of the poetic language, the psalmist now describe your experience of the liberating power of Jehovah. Poetry does not have in all your treasures a gem brighter than the sonnet of the verses the following; sadness, the scream, the descent of the Divine and the rescue of the afflicted, are here established for a song worthy of the golden harps. The Messiah, our Salvador is evidently above and beyond David or any another believer, the main and principal subject of this song; and in studying it, we become more and more convinced that each line here has its deepest and deep greeting in Him; but, as we wish not to extend our comment beyond moderate limits, we must leave it to the reader devotee to facilitate the application of the passage to our once anguished, but now triumphant, Lord.
Verse 4
"The sorrows of death surrounded me." Death, like a cruel conquistador, it seemed like the ropes of pain were twisting around him. He was surrounded and threatened with menacing deaths of the most terrible kind. He was like a sailor broken by the storm and thrown onto the rocks by terrible destroyers, white as the teeth of death. Sad situation for the man after God ’ s own heart, but this is how Jehovah deals with his children. "The floods of wicked men have made me afraid." Torrents of iniquity threatened to flood all religion and hasten the hope of a pious man as something to be despised and scorned; so far this the threat was fulfilled, that even the hero who killed Goliath began to have fear. The most navigable bark is sometimes difficult when the enemy of The storm is outside. The bravest man who usually expects the better, can sometimes fear the worst. Beloved reader, the one who channels these lines know better than most men what this verse it means, and if feels inclined to cry, and still to sing, while writing about a text so descriptive of your own experience. On the night of lamentable accident at Surrey Music Hall, the floods of Belial were released and the subsequent observations from a large part of the press were extremely malicious and wicked; our soul was scared when we find ourselves surrounded by the sorrows of death and by the blasphemies of cruel. On the night of the unfortunate accident at Surrey Music Hall, the floods of Belial were released and subsequent observations of a large part of the the press was extremely malicious and wicked; our soul was with fear when we find ourselves surrounded by the sorrows of death and by blasphemies of the cruel. On the night of the lamentable accident at Surrey Music Hall, the floods of Belial have been unleashed and the subsequent observations of a large part of the press was extremely malicious and wicked; our alma was afraid when we found ourselves surrounded by the sorrows of death and by the blasphemies of the cruel. But Oh, what mercy was in all this, and what honey of kindness was extracted by our Lord of this lion of affliction! Surely God has heard me! You are in difficult situation? Dear friend, learn from our experience to trust in Lord Jehovah, who does not renounce His chosen ones.
Verse 5
"The sorrows of hell have surrounded me." From all sides, the dogs of furious inferno latium. A cordon of demons cornered in the man hunted by God; every escape route has been closed off. Satan knows how to block our backs with the beasts of war from the war, but blessed be God, the harbor of all prayer is still open, and grace can fulfill the blocking messages from the earth to the sky, and blessings from the sky to the "The traps of death have prevented me." The old enemy hunts for his caught, not only with the dogs from the hellish kennel, but also with the traps from the deadly offensive. The nets were pulled closer and closer until the The contracted circle completely prevented the captive's escape.
Upon me, the strings of hell were wounded, And the traps of death my steps bound.
The case of this good man was as desperate, as desperate as a it could be, so desperate that no one but a whole armpowerful could be from any service. According to the four metaphors that he employs, he was linked as a wrongdoer for execution; oppressed like a shipwrecked sailor; surrounded and standing at a distance like a hunted deer; and captured in a net like a trembling bird.
What more terror and anguish could be found in a poor head? defenseless?
Verse 6
"In my anguish I called on the Lord and cried out to my God." A prayer is that back gate that is left open even when the the city is besieged by the enemy; it is thus upwards from the well of despair for which the spiritual miner flies at once when the floods of under burst upon him. Note that he calls and then cries; the prayer grows vehemently as it progresses. Note also that it first invoke your God under the name of Jehovah and then move on to a more familiar, "my God"; thus, faith increases with exercise, and to him who, At first, we consider Him Lord, hence He is seen as our God in covenant.
There is never a bad time to pray; no affliction should prevent us from using the divine remedy of supplication. Above the noise of the furious waves of death, of the latent hellhounds, the faintest cry of a true believer será ouvido no céu. "Ele ouviu a minha voz fora de seu templo, e meu grito came before him, even in his ears." Up high on the covered walls of jewels, and through the pearl gates, the cry of the suffering supplicant was heard. The music of the angels and the harmony of the seraphim allowed not to drown or even harm the voice of that called humble. The king heard this in his palace of light, unbearable, and listened to the cry of his beloved son. Oh honored prayer, power to thus penetrate through the blood of Jesus into the very ears and in the heart of the Deity. The voice and the cry are themselves heard directly by the Lord, and not made to pass through saints and intercessors; "My cry came before Him"; the operation of prayer with God is immediate and personal. We can cry with confident and familiar inconvenience, while our own Father listens. The king heard this in his palace of light, unbearable, and he heeded the cry of his beloved son. O honored prayer, to be able to enter through the blood of Jesus into one's own ears and in coração da Deidade. A voz e o clamor são eles mesmos ouvidos diretamente by the Lord, and not made to pass through the midst of saints and intercessors; My cry came before him; the operation of prayer with God is immediate and people. We can cry with confident and familiar annoyance, while Our own Father listens. The king heard this in his unbearable palace of light. and listened to the cry of her beloved son. The voice and the cry are themselves heard directly by Lord, and not made to pass through saints and intercessors; "My "clamor came before him"; the operation of prayer with God is immediate and personal.
We can cry with confident and familiar annoyance, while our the Father Himself listens and is not made to be passed through saints and intercessors; My cry came before Him; the operation of prayer with God is immediate and people. We can cry with confident and familiar annoyance while Our own Father listens and is not made to go through saints. intercessors; 'My cry came before Him'; the operation of prayer with God it is immediate and personal. We can cry with confident and familiar annoyance, while our own Father listens.
Verse 7
There was not much space between the crying and his answer. The Lord did not is negligent regarding his promise, but is quick to redeem his aflitos. David has in mind the glorious manifestations of God in Egypt, in Sinai and, on different occasions, to Joshua and to the judges; and he considers that his the very case displays the same glory of power and goodness, and that, therefore, he can accommodate the descriptions of previous demonstrations of majesty divine in your hymn of praise. "Then the earth trembled and trembled." Note how the most solid and immovable things feel the force of supplication. The prayer shook the houses opened the prison doors and made strong hearts stir. The prayer he rings the alarm bell, and the Master of the house rises for the rescue. shaking everything under its floor. "The foundations of the hills also se they moved and were shaken because of your anger. "He who fixed the pillars of the world can make them sway on their bases, and can transform the cornerstones of creation. The enormous roots of the tall mountains are torn When the Lord becomes angry to strike the enemies of his people How can man be able to face him before God When the own mountains tremble with fear? Do not allow the braggart to dream that your false confidence will support you on the terrible day of wrath. How to punish the man will be able to face him with God when the very mountains tremble with fear? Don't let the boaster dream that their current false confidence will he will support on the terrible day of wrath. How to punish a man will be able to face him with God when the very mountains tremble with fear? Do not let the boaster sonhar que sua atual falsa confiança o apoiará no dia terrível da ira.
Verse 8
"A smoke rose from his nostrils." A violent Eastern method to express fierce anger. As the breath from the nostrils is heated by a strong emotion, the figure depicts the Almighty Liberator as if he were gushing smoke in the heat of your anger and in the impetuosity of your zeal. God leaves nothing as angry as an injury done to your children. He who touches you touches girl of my eyes. God is not subject to the passions that govern yours. creatures, yet acting as he does with all the energy and speed of someone who he is angry, he is here appropriately exposed in poetic images suitable for human understandings. The opening of their lips is sufficient to destroy your enemies; "and fire from his mouth devoured." This fire was not temporary, yet stable and enduring; "Coals were stimulated by "This. The entire passage is intended to describe the descent of God in help from your son, assisted by earthquake and storm: in the majesty of your appearance as the rocks of the earth, the clouds gather like smoke, and the lightning like a flaming fire devours, placing the world in a fire. What a grandeur of description is here! Bishop Mant very amazingly the verse rhymes like this: Smoke from your heated nostrils came, And from your mouth devouring flames; Burning embers announced his wrath

The flight shown here is as majestic as it is fast; 'to fly "to the outside" is Sternhold's word, and he is not far from being correct.
As the eagle flies in great grandeur with its wings open, without violent oscillations and effort, thus comes the Lord with majesty of omnipotence to help yours.
11. The storm thickened and the clouds poured down torrents of rain combined to form the secret chamber of the invisible God, but prodigious. "Pavilion in waterproof tone" faith saw it, but no one else eye could look through the "thick clouds of the skies." Blessed is the darkness that surrounds my God; if I cannot see him, it is good to know that he está trabalhando em segredo para o meu bem eterno. Até mesmo os tolos you can believe that God is in the outdoors, in the sunlight and in the calm, but faith she is wise and discerns in the terrible darkness and in the threatening storm.
Verse 12
Suddenly the terrible artillery from the sky was unleashed; the brightness of lightning illuminated the clouds like a glory coming from the one who was hidden inside the foggy pavilion; and winds of hailstones and embers of fire were thrown at the enemy. The lightning seemed fanning the clouds and setting them ablaze, and then hailstones and flakes of fire with flashes of incredible greatness terrified the sons of men.
Verse 13
Above all, this splendor of the storm shone the terrible thunder. "The Lord also thundered in the heavens, and the Most High gave His voice."
Follow the follow-up for the flames of revenge. As the men will endure to hear you last when addressing them in the proclamation of your condemnation, for even now your hearts are in your mouths if they only listened murmuring from afar? In all this terror David, I found a theme for the song, and thus, every believer finds it even in the fears of God a subject for sacred praise. "Hailstones and coals "of fire" is mentioned twice to show how securely they are. in the divine hand and are the weapons of the Heaven's revenge. Horne observes that 'all the storm should remind us of that display of power and revenge, which is The impertinent curiosity often wants to know who and how many will be saved; if those who ask the question: "Who will dwell in your "Holy mountain?" Would this turn into an investigative research referencing them? same, they would act with much more wisdom. The members of the church visible, which is the tabernacle of the worship of God, and the hill of eminence, they must diligently take care that they have the preparation of the heart what is suitable for them to be prisoners of the house of God. Without the attire of marriage of justice in Christ Jesus, we do not have the right to sit in the communion banquet. Without the straightness of the walk, we are not fit to the imperfect church on earth, and we certainly should not expect to enter the church perfect above.
Verse 2
THE ANSWER. The Lord in response to the question informs us through your Holy Spirit of the character of man who alone can dwell in his holy mountain. In perfection, this holiness is found only in Man. the Dores, but to some extent it is carried out in all its people by the Spirit Saint. The faith and the graces of the Spirit are not mentioned, because this is a description of the exterior character, and where the fruits are found, the root is not can be seen, but it is certainly there. Observe the walk, the work and the word of the accepted man. "He who walks in righteousness," he stands upright. like those who cross high ropes; if they lean to one side for the other, they must go, or like those who carry precious goods, more fragile, in baskets on their heads, who lose everything if they lose the perpendicular. True believers do not shrink like sycophants, if they wriggle like snakes, bending like farmers of the land, or tricksters on one side like those who have sinister objectives; they have the spine strong dorsal of the vital principle of inner grace, and being themselves straight, they are capable of walking in a straight line. Walking is much more important than Speak. He is only right, who is just in walking and frankly in honesty.
And works justice. dead. The house of God is a hive for workers, not a nest for the drones. Those who are happy that everything is done by them, even Even Lord Jesus, and therefore, they hate legality, are the best. world leaders about the principles of the gospel. If we are not they are believers like their Lord, whose baptism is in many waters of agony and in His own blood rescued us from the coming wrath. Torrents of evil must not to drown the man whose God sits upon the floods to contain his wrath.
Verse 17
When we have been redeemed, we must take care to attribute all glory to God by confessing our own weakness and reminding us of the power of the conquered enemy. The power of God receives honor of all incidents of the conflict. Our great spiritual adversary It is, in fact, a 'strong enemy', too strong for poor and weak creatures. como nós, mas até agora fomos entregues até o fim. Nossa fraqueza é uma reason for divine help; mark the strength of 'for' in the text.
Verse 18
It was a day of sickness, a day of calamity, from which the enemies they cruelly took advantage of it, while using ingenious means to ruin him, but David could say: "but the Lord is my refuge." What blessed, but who cuts the Gordian knot and kills the hydra with a hundred heads! There is no fear of liberation when our stay is in Jehovah.
Verse 19
"He also brought me to a large place." After having sober in prison Joseph arrived at the palace, and from the cave of Adullam David ascended to the throne. Sweet is pleasure after pain. The widening is the most pleasant after a season of pinching poverty and confinement painful. Besieged souls delight in the vast fields of promise when God expels the enemy and opens the gates of the city. The Lord does not leave His half job, for having defeated the enemy, he takes the captive to the freedom. Indeed, great is the possession and place of the believer in Jesus, he does not need have limits to your peace, for there are no limits to your privilege. "He gave me "he delivered, because he delighted in me." The free grace is at the foundation. Have certainly, if we go deep enough, sovereign grace is the truth that is at the bottom of every well of mercy. Fishing in the open sea of the Divine grace always brings the pearls of election, discerning love in the light.
Why Jehovah delights in us is a question without an answer and a mystery what the angels cannot resolve; but that he delights in his beloved is Certainly, and it is the fruitful root of favors as numerous as they are precious.
Believer, sit down and internally digest the instructive sentence now before you. we, and learn to see God's uncaused love as the cause of all kindness of which we are participants.
Versículo 20. "O Senhor me recompensou de acordo com a minha justiça."
I sell this psalm as prophetic of the Messiah, these claims. strongly expressed to justice are readily understood, for their garments were white as snow; but considered as the language of David, they left many perplexed. However, the case is clear and, if the words do not become tense beyond its original intention, it is not necessary for it to occur no difficulty. Although the dispensations of divine grace are, in broader degree, sovereign and independently of human merit, still that in the procedures of Providence one can often discern a rule of justice by which the injured are finally avenged and the just finally freed. David's first problems arose from wickedness. malicious of the envious Saul, who undoubtedly carried out his persecutions under accusations made against the character of the "man after God's own heart."
David declares that these accusations are totally false and asserts that he had a justice given by the grace that the Lord rewarded graciously in challenge to all his slanderers. Before God, the a man according to God's heart was a humble sinner, but before his slanderers, he could, with an energetic face, talk about the "purity of his "hands" and the justice of his life. He knows little of the sanctifying power of divine grace that is not up to the level of human equity capable of alleging innocence. There is no self-justice in an honest man, knowing that he is honestly, not even in your belief that God rewards you in providing for your honesty, because it is often such a most evident question of fact; but it would be, in fact, self-justice if we would transfer such thoughts from the realm of providential government to the spiritual kingdom, for grace reigns not only supreme, but uniquely in the distribution of divine favors. It is in no way an opposition to doctrine of salvation by grace, and no type of evidence of a spirit farisaical, when a graceful man, having been slandered, maintains his integrity and fiercely defends his character. A pious man has a clear conscience and knows himself to be righteous; it is he who denies your own conscience and despise the work of the Holy Spirit, becoming hypocritically worse than he is? A pious man values his integrity very well, or else he would not be a pious man; He must be called proud because he won't easily lose the jewel of a character respectable? A pious man can see that, in divine providence, the righteousness and truth, in the long run, will certainly bring their own reward; he cannot, when he sees that reward given in his own case, praise to the Lord for that? Yes, should he not show faithfulness and kindness of your God? Read the grouping of expressions in this and in the following verses like the song of a good conscience, after having overcome with security a storm of dishonesty, persecution and abuse, and not there will be fear of censoring the writer as someone who sets the bar too high a price on your own moral character. when he sees that reward Given in your own case, praised be the Lord for it? Verse 21
Here the statement of purity is repeated, both positively how negative. There is 'I have' and 'I do not have', both of which must be mixed in a truly sanctified life; constraining grace and restrictive must each have their part. The words of this verse refer to to the saint like a traveler carefully keeping "the paths of "Sir" and "not wickedly", that is, projecting, intentionally, persistently, challengingly abandoning the ordered path in which God favors the pilgrim with His presence. Observe how this is implicit in the expression ', and did not perversely depart from my God', that Davi lived in communion with God, and he knew that He was his own God, to whom he could speak as 'my God'. God never Stay away from your people, let them be careful to leave it.
22. Because all your judgments were before me. The word, the character and the actions of God must always be before our eyes; we must learn, consider and revere them. Men forget what they do not they want to remember, but the excellent attributes of the Most High are objects of the affectionate and enchanted admiration of the believer. We must uphold the image of God so constantly before us that we become in our measure conforme a ela. Esse amor interior à direita deve ser a fonte principal da Christian integrity in our public walk. The source should be filled in. with love for holiness, and then the chains that emanate from it will be pure and funny. "I did not keep your statutes from me." Remove the Scriptures from the study of the mind is the right way to prevent them from influencing the conversation The inverted ones start with dusty Bibles and go to the dirty clothes.
Verse 23
'I was also standing before him.' Sincerity is here. claimed; sincerity, as it would be considered genuine before the bar of God. Whatever evil men think of him, David felt that he had the good opinion of your God. Moreover, free from his great sin, he adventure also to implore: 'I kept myself away from my iniquity.' It is a very graceful sign when the most violent parts of our nature were well kept. If the weakest link in the chain is not broken, the links but the stronger will be safe enough. David's impetuous temperament he could have had him killed Saul when he had him in his power, but the grace empowered him to keep his hands clean from the blood of his enemy; but what a marvel it was, and how worthy of such a gratifying record as these verses allow! It will be a sweet cordial for us to remember one of these days our selfless and bless God that we were able to display them.
Verse 24
God first gives us holiness, and then rewards us for it.
We are your creation; vessels made for honor; and when made, honor is not denied. to the pot; although, in fact, all of this belongs to the Potter on whose wheel the the vase was molded. The prize is awarded to the flower at the show, but the gardener it. created; the child receives the teacher's award, but the true honor of their Education is of the master, although, instead of receiving, he gives the reward.
Verse 25
The Lord's relations in His own case make it so that the Grateful singer, remember the usual rule of God's moral governance; He is only in your dealings with the sons of men and spreads to each man according to your measure. "With the merciful you show yourself merciful; with the upright man you show yourself true." Each man will have the your heavy meat in your own scales, your corn harvested in your own measure and your land measured with your rod. No rule can be fairer, for the most terrible wicked men, or for the generous man but more honorable. As men would cast aside their light weights, and break. their short backyards, if they could, but they believed that they themselves with surely they would, in the end, be the losers for their malicious tricks! Note that even the merciful need mercy; no amount from generosity to the poor, or forgiveness to enemies, can place us besides the need for mercy. Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.
26. With the pure you show yourself pure, and with the wicked you show yourself wicked. the perversity of the sinner is sinful and rebellious, and the only sense in which the the term that can be applied to the Most High God is that of judicial opposition and the severity, in which the Judge of all the earth will act against the offender, and let him see that not all things should be made subordinate to whims and intentional fantasies. Calvino says very forcefully: "This brutal and monstrous stupidity in men forces God to invent new ways of expression and, so to speak, dressing with a different character.
There is a similar sentence in Leviticus 26:21-24, where God says: 'and if standards contrary to me (or perversely with), then also I will walk in the opposite way (or perverse, harsh, or random) you. if he had said that obstinacy and stubbornness would make him forget his customary tolerance and kindness, and launched herself recklessly or random against them. We then see what the stubborn finally acquire for your obstinacy; it is this, that God hardens even more to break them in pieces, and if they are made of stone, he makes them feel that he has the hardness of iron. "The Jewish tradition was that the manna tasted according to the the mouth of each man; surely God reveals himself to each individual according to with your character.
Verse 27
'For you will save the afflicted people.' This is a comforting assurance. for the poor in spirit, whose spiritual pains admit no consolation enough from another person besides a divine hand. They cannot save the themselves, nor others can do it, but God will save them. "But will bring high appearance." Those who despise others will be despised with disdain for a long time. The Lord abhors a proud look. What reason for regret and humiliation! How much better it is to be humble than What provokes God to humiliate us in His anger! A considerable number of clauses occur in this passage in the future tense; How forcefully we are brought to remember that our present joy or sadness does not carry so much weight I know like the great and eternal future!
Verse 28
"For you will light my candle." Even the children of the day to Sometimes they need candlelight.
In the darkest hours, the light will arise; a candle will be lit, it will be the comfort. what we can use without dishonesty - will be our own candle; however, the God himself will find the sacred fire with which the candle will burn; our the evidence is ours, but your comfortable light is from above. Candles that are lit by God, the devil cannot blow. All the candles are not shining and, therefore, there are some graces that bring no comfort at all; but It is good to have candles that can be lit and illuminated, and it is good to possess grace. that still provide us with encouraging evidence. The metaphor of the verse the whole is founded on the painful nature of darkness and the delight of light; truly the light is sweet, and it is a pleasant thing for the eyes we will contemplate the sun"; and even so, the presence of the Lord removes all the the sadness of sadness, and allows the believer to rejoice with great joy. the lighting of the lamp is a joyful moment on a winter night, but the to lift the light of God's countenance is much happier. They say that the the poor of Egypt will feast on bread to buy oil for the lamp, to that do not settle in the darkness; we could afford to separate from All earthly comforts, if the light of God's love could bring joy constantly our souls. we could afford to separate from all earthly comforts, if the light of God's love could bring joy constantly our souls. could we afford to separate from all earthly comforts, if the light of God's love could bring joy constantly our souls.
Verses 29-45. Some repetitions are not vain repetitions. The seconds thoughts on the mercy of God must be and usually are the better. Like wines in the lees, our gratitude becomes stronger and sweet as we meditate on divine kindness. The verses we have now to consider are the ripe fruit of a spirit of gratitude; they are apples of gold regarding the material, and are placed in silver baskets regarding their língua. Eles descrevem a carreira vitoriosa do crente e a confusão de seus enemies.
Verse 29
"For you I ran through a troop; and by my God I leaped over top of a wall.
Whether we find the enemy in open field or leap upon him while they peek behind the battlements of a city, by the grace of God, we will be defeated in both cases; if they surround us with living legions, they surround us with stone walls, with equal certainty we will obtain our freedom. Such feats that we have already accomplished, following our path in a series of difficulties and scaling impossibilities in a leap. The warriors from God can expect to have a proof of every form of struggle, and must by the power of faith determines to let oneself be like men; but it is up to them to have a lot care to lay all the laurels at the feet of Jehovah, each of them saying: for my God our conflicts, we dedicate to the God of Battles, and we attribute to Him all glory and strength.
Verse 30
"As for God, His way is perfect." Far beyond all failures and errors are God's procedures with his people; all of your actions are radiant with justice, truth, tenderness, mercy and holiness. Every way of God is complete in itself, and all of his together paths are unmatched in harmony and kindness. It is not much comforting to believe that He who began to bless us will perfect us your work, for all your ways are "perfect". Nor should the "divine word" without its song of praise. "The word of the Lord is tested" like refined silver in the furnace. The doctrines are glorious, the precepts are pure, the promises are faithful and all revelation is superlatively full of grace and truth. David tried, thousands tried, we tried and never failed. It was right that when the path and the word had been exalted, the the Lord Himself should be magnified; hence it is added: "He is a shield for all those who trust in him." No proof armor or A brass shield protects the warrior as well as the pact that God made with Israel. protect your warrior people. He himself is the shield of the trustworthy; that what a thought this is! What peace all trusting souls can enjoy!
31. Having mentioned his God, the psalmist's heart burns, and his words shimmer; he challenges the sky and the earth to find another that is worthy of worship or trust compared to Jehovah. Your God, as says Matthew Henry, is a None-such. The idols of the pagans that he It's pointless to mention, erasing them all as mere words when speaking. of Deity. "Who is God but the Lord?" Who else creates, sustains, foresees And annul? Who, but he is perfect in all attributes and glorious in all.
To whom, if not to Jehovah, should the creatures bow? Who else?
Can you claim your service and your love? 'Who is a rock, save our God? Where can enduring hopes be mended? Where is the soul Can you find rest? Where is the stability to be found? Where Is the strength to be discovered? Certainly, only in the Lord Jehovah. we can find rest and refuge.
Verse 32
Examining all the armor in which he fought and conquered, the joyful victor praises the Lord for all parts of the armor. The belt From your loins comes the first stanza: 'It is God who girds me with strength and "improves my path." Girded at the loins with the power of heaven, the the warrior was full of vigor, far above all created power; and, while, without this wonderful belt, he would have been weak and effeminate, with relaxed energies and dispersed forces, he felt, when prepared with the belt of truth, compact in purpose, courageous in boldness and focused on power; so that its course was a success complete, so untroubled by disastrous defeat that he is called perfect. Were we made more than conquerors of sin? And our life until Has now been just like it became the gospel? So, we attribute all the glory to the one who wrapped us with his inexhaustible strength, so that we may be undefeated in battle and unhappy in pilgrimage.
The feet of the conqueror were shod by a divine hand, and the next note It must, therefore, refer to them. "He makes my feet like the little feet of the "backsides and puts me in my highs." Chasing his enemies, the warrior It was fast like a young egg, but instead of feeling pleasure in the legs of A man, he attributes the advantage of speed to the Lord only. When our thoughts are agile and our spirits are quick, like the chariots of Aminadibe, let us not forget that the hand of our better Loved gave us the favor of choice. Climbing in fortresses invulnerable, David had been kept from slipping, and made it stay where scarce the wild goat can find a foundation; here it was preserving the manifested mercy. We too had our highs places of honor, service, temptation, and danger, but so far we have been prevented bring the harp here and let us imitate the joy of the psalmist's action thanks; If we had fallen, our laments would have been terrible; since we rise, may our gratitude be fervent.
Verse 34
'He teaches my hands for war.' The feats and martial skills in the use of weapons are gratefully recognized as result of divine teaching; no sacrifice is offered in the sanctuary of the ego in praise of natural dexterity, or acquired skill; but in regarding all the war feats as a gift of heavenly favor, the Gratitude is presented to the Donor. The Holy Spirit is the great Drillmaster. two celestial soldiers. "Then, a steel bow is broken by my arms. Probably, a brass arch meant, and these arches they could hardly be bent just by the arms; the archer needed get help from your foot; It was, therefore, a great feat of strength to bend the arch, even to break it in half. This was done from the arch of enemies, that he not only tore from their hands, but useless, breaking it in pieces. Jesus not only destroyed the burning suggestions of Satan, but also broke their arguments with which he shot at them, using the Sacred Scripture against him; by the same means we can win one. similar triumph, breaking the bow and cutting the spear into pieces by the the sharp edge of revealed truth. Probably, David had by nature a vigorous physical structure; but it is even more likely that, like Samson, he was sometimes dressed with more strength than usual; in any case he attributes the honor of his deeds entirely to his God. Never we ruthlessly rob the Lord of what is due to Him, but faithfully we let us give glory that is due to your name. breaking the bow and cutting the throws in pieces by the sharp edge of revealed truth. Probably, David had a vigorous physical structure by nature; but it is even more likely that, like Samson, he was sometimes dressed with strength more than how common; anyway, he attributes the honor of his deeds entirely to your God. Let us never ruthlessly rob the Lord of what is due to Him, let us faithfully give Him the glory that is due to His name. breaking the bow and cutting the spear into pieces by the sharp edge of revealed truth.
Probably, David had by nature a vigorous physical structure; but it is even more likely that, like Samson, he was at times dressed in strength more than usual; anyway, he attributes the honor of his made entirely to your God. Let us never rob the Lord ruthlessly. what is due to you, but let us faithfully grant you the glory that is due to your name.
Verse 35: "You also gave me the shield of your salvation." Above all, we must take up the shield of faith, for nothing else can extinguish the fiery darts of Satan; this shield is of celestial workmanship and, in all cases, it is a direct presence of God Himself; it is the channel, the sign, the guarantee, and the pledge of perfect salvation. "Your right hand held me." The secret support is administered to us by God's preserving grace and, at the same time, Providence kindly grants us manifest assistance. We are so cute that we cannot be alone; but when the right hand of the Lord us sustain, we are like bronze pillars that cannot be moved. 'Your kindness made me great. your kindness has magnified me. David saw great part of the benevolence in God's action towards him, and he gratefully attributed all his greatness not to his own goodness, but to the goodness of God. "Your providence" is another reading, which in fact is nothing more than kindness in action. Kindness is the sprout from which providence is the flower; or the kindness is the seed from which providence is the harvest. Some say: 'your help, firm allied with the saints, assisting them in the service of their Lord. Certain your humility moves me "Your condescension" may, perhaps, serve as a reading comprehensive, combining the ideas we have already mentioned, as well as that of humility. It is God making Himself small that is the reason we are made great.
We are so small that if God manifests His greatness without condescension, we will be trampled; but God, who must bow down to to see the heavens and bend down to see what the angels do, look at the humble and contrite and makes them great. While these are the translations that were given.
From the text adopted from the original, we discover that there are other readings together; for example, the Septuagint, which says 'your discipline' - the correction fatherly - 'made me great'; while the paraphrase of the Chaldeans says: 'your word it increased me." Still, the idea is the same. Davi attributes all of his its own greatness to the goodness and condescending grace of its Father in heaven.
Let's all feel this feeling in our hearts, and confess that, whether what goodness or greatness God may have placed upon us, we must cast our crowns at your feet and cry out: "Your kindness me greatened.
Versículo 36. "Aumentaste os meus passos." Um caminho suave levando a spacious spaces and camping grounds were opened for him. Instead of to thread through the narrow paths of the mountain and hide in the cracks and corners from the caves, he was able to cross the plains and dwell under his own vine and fig tree. It is not a small mercy to be brought to the fullness freedom and Christian expansion, but it is an even greater favor to be enabled to to walk dignifiedly in such freedom, not being allowed to slip with our feet. To remain on the rocks of affliction is the result of defense graceful, but this help is as necessary as in the luxurious plains of prosperity.
Verse 37
The preservation of the saints is a bad omen for their adversaries. The Amelequites felt clean with their plunder, but when the God of David guided him in the pursuit, they were soon caught and cut down. in pieces. When God is with us, sins and sorrows flee, and all the forms of evil are 'consumed' before the power of grace. What a noble portrait. these are the following verses that present the victories of our glorious Lord Jesus!
Verse 38
The destruction of our spiritual enemies is complete. We can rejoice over sin, death, and hell, unarmed and incapacitated to we by our conquering Lord; May he graciously grant you a similar defeat within us.
Verses 39 and 40. It is impossible to be very frequent in the duty of assigning all our victories to the God of our salvation. It is true that we have to fight with our spiritual antagonists, but the triumph is much more than ours. We should not take pride like the ambitious devotees of vanity, but we can exult as instruments willing and believing in the hand of the Lord to carry out Your great designs.
Verse 41
"They cried out, but there was no one to save them; indeed, to LORD, but he did not answer them." Prayer is such a remarkable weapon. that even the wicked will bring it upon themselves in their acts of despair.
Evil men appealed to God against God's own servants, but all in vain; the kingdom of heaven is not divided, and God never helps his enemies at the expense of their friends. There are prayers to God that are no better than blasphemy, which does not bring a comfortable answer, but rather they provoke the Lord to greater anger. Should I ask a man to harm or To kill your own son to gratify my malice? Wouldn't you resent it? insult against your humanity? The less Jehovah will consider the desires cruel enemies of the church, who dare to offer their prayers for her destruction, calling its existence a schism and its doctrine heresy!
Verse 42
The defeat of the nations that fought with King David was so complete and complete that they were like powdered dust in a mortar; their power was broken into fragments and they became as weak as dust in front of the wind, and as petty as the mud on the roads. Thus, powerless and the enemies of God are now becoming through the victory of the Son of David on the cross. Rise up, O my soul, and meet with your enemies, because they suffered a mortal blow and will fall before your boldness advance.
Hell and my sins resist my course, But hell and sin are conquered enemies My Jesus nailed them to His cross, And he sang the triumph when he rose up.
Verse 43: 'You delivered me from the struggles of the people.' The internal conflict is very difficult to deal with. A civil war is war in its most miserable form; it is a subject of warm gratitude when the rules agree. Our the poet praises Jehovah for the unity and peace that smile in His domains, and if if we have peace in the three realms of our spirit, soul, and body, we have the duty to to give a song to Jehovah. Unity in a church must certainly excite as gratitude. "You made me the head of the Gentiles; a people that I did not "knew it would serve me." The neighboring nations surrendered to the prince's rule. from Judah. When all the lands will worship King Jesus and serve Him with joy Santa? There is certainly much more of Jesus than of David here. The missionaries can obtain a rich incentive from the positive statement that the pagan lands will possess the leadership of the Crucified.
Verse 44
"As soon as they hear from me, they will obey me." Thus, promptly, the captain who fought once became a winner of rename, and thus our triumphs will be easy. We prefer, however, to speak of Jesus. In many cases, the gospel is quickly received by hearts. apparently unprepared for this. Those who have never heard the gospel first, they were enchanted by his first message and they obeyed her; while others, oh! who are used to her sound cheerful, they are much more hardened than softened by their teachings. The the grace of God sometimes runs like fire in the midst of the beard, and a nation it is born in a day. 'Love at first sight' is not an uncommon thing when Jesus is the wooer. He can write Caesar's message without boasting, Veni, I saw, I conquered; Or the gospel, in some cases, is not heard before what happens. believe. What incentives to spread abroad the doctrine of the cross!
Verse 45
'The strangers must disappear.' Like dry leaves or trees destroyed, our enemies and the enemies of Christ will not find sap and remaining resistance in them. Those who are strangers to Jesus are strangers to all lasting happiness; those who will soon disappear, they will refuse to be watered from the river of life. 'And be afraid of your places próximos." De suas fortalezas nas montanhas, os pagãos se arrepiaram de ter loyalty to the king of Israel and, even so, from the castles of self-confidence and the carnal security dens, poor sinners come kneeling before the Salvador, Christ, the Lord. Our sins that have entrenched themselves in our meat and blood like in impregnable strongholds will still be expelled by the sanctifying energy of the Holy Spirit, and we will serve the Lord in sincerity of heart.
Thus, with memories of past achievements and cheerful anticipations of victories yet to come, the sweet singer concludes the description and returns to perform a more direct worship of your gracious God.
Verse 46
"The Lord lives." Having a life not experienced, essential, independent and eternal. We do not serve a lifeless, imaginary, or dying. He only has immortality. As loyal subjects, we will cry, live, Oh God. Long live the King of Kings. For your immortality, we dedicate ourselves to you again.
As the Lord our God lives, we would live for Him. "And blessed be my rock." He is the foundation of our hope and may he be the subject to our praise. Our hearts bless the Lord, with holy love exalting him.
Jehovah lives, my rock be blessed!
Praised be the God who gives me rest!
Be exalted the God of my salvation. should be glorified more than ever. We must publish abroad the the story of the covenant and of the cross, the election of the Father, the redemption of the Son and the regeneration of the Spirit. He who rescues us from the deserved ruin must be very dear to us. In heaven they sing "to him who loved us and washed us in your blood"; the similar song should be common in the assemblies of saints below.
Verse 47
'It is God who avenges me, and subdues people under me.'
To rejoice in personal revenge is unjust and bad, but David considered himself an instrument of vengeance against the enemies of God and His people, and if not if he rejoiced in the success that had been granted to him, he would have been worthy of censorship. That sinners perish is in itself a painful consideration, but that the law of the Lord is avenged upon those who break it is for the mind devote a theme of gratitude. We must, however, always remember that the vengeance is never ours, for vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He is so just and so long-suffering in its exercise, that we can safely leave its administration in your hands.
Verse 48
Of all the enemies, and especially of someone who was preeminent in violence, the Lord's anointed was preserved and, finally, over the head of Saul and all the other adversaries, he reigned in honor. a similar end awaits all the saints, because Jesus, who humbled himself to be lightly esteemed among men, is now made to sit very much above all principalities and powers.
Verse 49
Paul cites this verse (Romans 15:9): "And so that the Gentiles... glorify God for His mercy, as it is written: Therefore I I will confess among the Gentiles, and I will sing to your name." This is a clear evidence that the Lord of David is here, but David is here too, and it should be seen as an example of a holy soul boasting in God even in the presence of wicked men. Who are those who despise God Why should we stop speaking for them? Let's sing to our God, whether they like it or not.
Oh no, and impose on them the knowledge of your kindness. Too much politeness for Traitors may be treason against our king.
Verse 50
This is the settlement verse in which the writer launches a fullness of expression, indicating the most overwhelming joy of gratitude.
Great liberation. The word "liberation" is plural, to show the variety. the completeness of salvation; the adjective 'great' is well placed if we consider that, for what and how we are saved. All this mercy is given to us in our King, the Anointed of the Lord, and those who are truly blessed, like your seed, can expect that the mercy be built forever. The Lord has been faithful to the literal David, e ele não quebrará seu pacto com o David espiritual, pois isso it would greatly involve the honor of your crown and character.
The Psalm concludes in the same spirit of love that shone at its beginning; happy they are those who can sing from love to love, just like the pilgrims they marched from strength to strength.
