Life, pp. 393, 394. We would here suggest the importance of a special reference to our work in the prayer before the sermon. If extempore prayer were deemed inexpedient, yet several petitions might be collected into a short form, expressive of our entire dependence on the Spirit of God for the expected blessing upon our work. This distinct and solemn honouring of the Spirit would command the Divine influence upon our service; while the sympathy excited throughout the Christian part of our congregation would give a large encouragement and warrant to faith. See Matt, 18.19; and Scott’s Life, pp. 392, 393.
