Cecil’s Remains. ‘He spoke,’ (observes Dr. Bates and Dr. Manton) ‘as one that had a living faith within him of divine truth.’ ‘That we are so weak in the faith, is the greatest impediment of all. Hence it is, that when we should set upon a man for his conversion with all our might, even if there are no stirrings of unbelief within us as to whether there is a heaven and a hell—yet at least the belief in them is so feeble that it will scarcely excite in us a kindly, resolute, and constant zeal; so that our whole motion will be but weak, because the spring of faith is so weak. O what need, therefore, Ministers have for themselves and their work, to look well to their faith; especially to see that their assent to the truth of Scripture, about the joys and torments of the life to come, are sound and lively.’—Reformed Pastor.
