The Final Word Before the Final Day
the risen Lord to His bride. He is not asking for a doctrine that fits the times. He is asking for a church that is fit for Him.
The Final Word Before the Final Day Revelation closes with a promise and a prayer. "He who testifies to these things says, 'Surely I am coming soon.' Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!" The doctrine that ends all others is not a system. It is a summons to readiness.
Maranatha. Come, Lord. And until He comes, we teach all that He commanded.
What does it mean to live in light of that promise? It means we read the Scriptures as those who will give an account. It means we preach as dying men to dying men. It means we raise children who know the Bible better than they know their screens. It means we plant churches that would rather be small and true than big and vague. It means we sing songs loaded with doctrine, not because we love old things, but because old truths are ever new when the Spirit breathes on them.
It means we refuse to add to the Word, even when addition would make us rich. It means we refuse to subtract from the Word, even when subtraction would make us liked. It means we hold firmly to the trustworthy word, because we have come to love the Trustworthy One who spoke it. It means we contend for the faith once for all delivered, not with clenched fists and cruel hearts, but with open Bibles and weeping eyes, pleading with the lost to be reconciled to God.
And it means we end where we began: at His feet. The canon is closed, but the communion is open. The teaching is finished, but the Teacher is present.
The last doctrine is not a period. It is a Person. And He is still speaking by His Spirit through His Word, saying what He has always said to those who will hear: "If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the teaching."
So will we. We will do His will. And we will know. We will hold the line.
We will teach the nations. We will refute the lies. We will expose the teachings of Balaam and Jezebel wherever they appear, whether in the culture or in our own hearts. We will not add. We will not take away. We will remember. We will obey. And by the grace of God, we will endure.
The doctrine of Christ is final because Christ is final. He is the Alpha and the Omega. He is the Beginning and the End. And because He is the End,
His didaché ends all others. All other teachers are judged by Him. All other gospels are condemned without Him. All other revelations are silenced before Him.
One day the scroll will be opened and the books will be read. On that day, the only question will be whether we were mastered by the Teacher or by our age. Whether we sat at His feet or sought another master. Whether we held firmly to the trustworthy word, or let it slip.
May it be said of us that we did not seek a new word. We trusted the old one. We guarded it. We heralded it. We lived it. And when the Lord came,
He found us doing what He commanded, teaching what He commanded, and loving what He commanded.
This is the doctrine that ends all others. And it is the doctrine that begins eternity.
He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
Amen. Come, Lord Jesus.
