Test by Christ-Centeredness
discernment to distinguish divine instruction from human tradition, sound doctrine from spiritual sickness.
Test by Scripture The Bereans were commended because "they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so" (Acts 17:11). No teaching, no matter how charismatic the teacher or how pious the claim, is exempt from the test of Scripture. "To the law and to the testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because they have no dawn" (Isa. 8:20). All didaskalia must be measured by the canon of apostolic Scripture. This requires a biblically literate people who know the Bible well enough to detect deviations.
Test by Christ-Centeredness True didaskalia exalts Christ. "He must increase, but I must decrease"
(John 3:30). Paul resolved "to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified" (1 Cor. 2:2). Any teaching that marginalizes
Christ, treats Him as a means to self-fulfillment, or adds to His finished work is not sound didaskalia . The "doctrine of men" inevitably shifts the center from Christ to technique, experience, ritual, or human personality.
