Chapter 133 of 133

Cultivate Practice and Reflection

Cultivate Practice and Reflection

guides to the "pattern of sound words" that has been recognized across centuries. To disregard that pattern lightly is spiritual arrogance.

Cultivate Practice and Reflection Finally, we must personally resist the reduction of didaskalia to information. Let us be those who, having received instruction, "work out your salvation with fear and trembling" (Phil. 2:12). This means deliberate reflection: meditating on the Word day and night (Ps. 1:2), examining ourselves in its light (2 Cor. 13:5), and "taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor. 10:5). It also means deliberate practice:

"putting on the Lord Jesus Christ" (Rom. 13:14), "putting off the old self"

(Eph. 4:22), and actively doing "the good works which God prepared beforehand" (Eph. 2:10).

The commandments and teachings of men offer shortcuts: formulas for blessing, techniques for spirituality, rules for appearing righteous. But they perish with use because they do not reach the heart. The didaskalia of God addresses us at the deepest level: disclosing our sin, revealing Christ, renewing our minds, and empowering obedience by the Spirit. It does not

flatter the flesh, but it frees the soul. It does not tickle the ears, but it transforms the life.

Therefore, let us be people of the Book, saturated in sound didaskalia . Let us hold fast the faithful word. Let us teach it to our children. Let us adorn it with godly lives. And let us, by God's grace, transmit it unstained to the generation yet unborn. For the didaskalia that is from above is not a burden but a gift — the very instruction of the Father to His beloved children, teaching us to walk in His ways until we see Him face to face.

Doctrine is not the end. Christ is. Sound teaching is the path that leads you to Him and keeps you in Him. So walk in Him, rooted and built up, established in the faith, overflowing with gratitude. For His name is called the Word of God, and His words are the words of grace. To the end, may we be found in Him, faithful to the end, contending for the faith once for all delivered to the saints, until we see Him face to face.
