Bibliography
Bibliography This is a selection of materials used in the writing of this present work and recommended to readers for their own perusal. Other books formed the "deep background" to the work, shaping my outlook over a long period, but I have no note of actually consulting them specifically for this work, so I have not included them here. Chief among these are writings on 17th century English history in general and Puritanism in particular; and among such writings, pride of place must go to the writings of Christopher Hill, an erudite Marxist with a gift for words who found much to admire in the English Revolution, and wrote fine biographies of Oliver Cromwell and John Milton.
