What this chapter says
Tozer explores Peter’s charge to “gird up the loins of your mind” and be sober-minded as a call to Spirit-controlled, reasoned faith rather than either cold formalism or unchecked emotionalism. A Spirit-filled believer, he argues, is made joyful, warm-hearted and earnest, but never foolish, cynical or embarrassing — the Holy Spirit disciplines feeling rather than eliminating or indulging it. He contrasts this living sobriety with the deadness of a merely traditional, “tombstone” church that changes with nothing and moves no one.
