Jesus’ eschatological discourse naturally shares many eschatological motifs with its broader Jewish environment. Apart from Jesus tradition, however, it does not draw on any single extrabiblical source significantly more than others. But it appears that most of the eschatological material (informing even much that orally stands behind Matthew’s redaction of Mark) was already part of the Jesus tradition by the time that Paul dictated the first document in our NT, 1 Thessalonians, roughly two decades after Jesus’ public teachings.
