Chapter XXIII: Dead and Living Sin, § 105.
CHAPTER XXIII: ON DEAD AND LIVING SIN
§ 105. Nineteenth. Some sin is dead; some is living. The basis for this division stands in Rom. 7:8–9: “Sin was dead without the Law, but when the commandment came, sin revived.” Therefore with respect to the Law, which reveals and accuses, one sin is said to be dead, another, living. A dead sin inheres in us but is not acknowledged as sin, nor does it rage in the same way as it usually does after the knowledge of the Law. A living sin is acknowledged in the mirror of the Law and rages within us.
