Chapter Fifty-Two
CHAPTER FIFTY-TWO
On the Oratory of the Monastery
LET THE oratory be what it is called, and let nothing else be done or stored there. When the Work of God is finished, let all go out with utmost silence and let reverence be shown to God. In this way, a brother who perhaps desires to pray by himself is not hindered by another’s misconduct. And if a monk at some other time desires to pray in private, let him enter with simplicity and pray, not with a loud voice, but with tears and fervor of heart. In sum, anyone who does not say his prayers in this way, should not be permitted to stay in the oratory after the Work of God is finished, lest another monk, as we said, be disturbed.
