Chapter Twenty-Nine
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
Whether Brethren Who Leave the Monastery Ought to Be Received Again
IF A BROTHER, who through his own fault leaves the monastery [some manuscripts add: or is expelled], desires to return, let him first promise full amendment of the fault for which he left. Then let him be received taking the lowest rank; by this means his humility will be tried. If he should leave again, let him be received up to a third time, after which point he should know that all possibility of readmission will be denied him.
