Chapter Forty-Six
CHAPTER FORTY-SIX
On Those Who Fail in Any Other Matters
IF ANYONE does something wrong while engaged in any work—in the kitchen, in the cellar, in serving, in the bakery, in the garden, at any art or work in any place whatever—or if he breaks or loses anything, or transgresses in any way whatever, and he does not immediately come before the Abbot and the community, and of his own accord confess his offense and make satisfaction, and all this comes to the attention through the observation of another monk, let the offending monk be subjected to a greater correction.
If, however, the reason for his sin comes from some hidden spiritual issue, let the monk disclose it to the Abbot alone, or to his spiritual seniors, who know how to heal their own wounds, and those of others, while not exposing or making them public.
