Week 52—FRIDAY

MY CODE IS A CHARACTER

The sixth thing Jesus Christ means to me is health. I don’t make that first, but as a by-product of all I’ve said before, health emerges. In a health crisis a few years ago, Jesus said to me: “In me you are well and whole.” It was important, for it meant that if I stepped out of him into resentments, fear, self-preoccupation, and guilt I was not well, and I was not whole. I can only be “well” as long as I am “whole,” and I am “whole” only as long as I remain in Jesus.

The seventh thing Jesus Christ means to me is that my code is a character, that Character is Jesus Christ himself. You can outgrow a code but you never outgrow a character if that character is a Divine Character. The more you see the more there is to be seen. He is an unfolding Revelation—forever with you and forever beyond you. There is a surprise around every corner, life is popping with novelty, never a dull moment.

And Jesus lets me see nothing less than my Heavenly Father. When an H-bomb was exploded with its blinding flash, a physicist said that it reminded him of a passage from the Bhagavad-Gita: “If the radiance of a thousand suns were burst into the sky, that would be like the splendor of the Mighty One.” But that is not the revelation of God I get in Jesus. Jesus is God’s Transformer, transforming God from blinding light that would sear us, into the glory of God as seen in the face of Jesus Christ—that doesn’t sear us, it saves us.

They tell us that laser light can carry information: “Each five-thousandeth of a second burst of light can theoretically be made to transmit coded information that would be equivalent of 200,000 words.” Jesus is that laser light who in one split second of an act can reveal God to us and be of more use to us than all the piled-up words of philosophy of the ages.

O Lord Jesus, you do not blind me with your radiance—you beckon me with your love. You do not deafen me with your thunder—you speak in the still small voice, and God the Eternal is in that still small voice. Amen.

AFFIRMATION FOR THE DAY: The lowly God enters in at lowly doors, but when that happens the Most High God is revealed. Only God can afford to be humble.
