CHAPTER 49: We are excommunicated
CHAPTER 49
We are excommunicated
WILFRID’S enemies, not content with appropriating his possessions, declared that we and all who had dealings with us were no longer part of the body of the faithful. They even went so far in severing communion with us as to hold that if any of our priests or abbots should be invited to a meal by any of the ‘faithful’ and should bless the food on the table with the sign of the cross, then that food should be thrown away as though it were meat offered to idols, and the dishes used by our men should be purified before being considered fit for use again.
