CHAPTER 43
Eadberht is buried in Cuthbert’s tomb beneath a sarcophagus containing Cuthbert’s remains
MEANWHILE Eadberht was stricken with a painful disease. It grew daily more intense and within a short while he died, on the 6th of May to be exact. His wish, to die not suddenly but through long and wearing illness, had been granted. He was put in Cuthbert’s tomb under the chest containing the incorrupted body.
Even to this day there is no lack of signs and wonders; the very clothes worn by the saint, both in life and in death, have still the power to heal.
