Saturday: Still Had That Wonderful Smile
WEEK 32
SATURDAY
STILL HAD THAT WONDERFUL SMILE
Isaiah 62:3-5
We have looked at this pure spring of joy bubbling in the pages of the Acts. And that pure joy is bubbling now!
“Mary” is a direct spiritual descendant of these joy-filled people of the Acts. I described her going through an accident in which her husband was killed, and going through it on wings. It is one thing to go through it that way once, but would it happen again? Wouldn’t there be a deposit of fear in the subconscious that would come out in another accident? She did have another accident, in which an experienced driver was driving her car; and when the car in front suddenly stopped, her car crashed into it, smashing the radiator and putting the car out of commission. After the crash, the driver looked over his shoulder to see how she was taking it, and he said, “I’ll be blessed if she didn’t still have that wonderful smile!” Her subconscious was held by Joy, and her smile during the accident was the sign that the within was intact!
This Joy comes out in comparatively small matters too. When there was company for dinner, “Mary” dropped a chocolate cake she was taking out of the oven—dropped it on the floor because of a burnt finger. She took it laughingly to the guests and served it as it was! Nothing had happened, was her comment. And that is the point; nothing had happened! The within was intact, held by Joy!
“Mary” has an amazing power to impart this joy to others. She says, “It’s wonderful to see God give people a spiritual transfusion through you. They come with blue lips and pale faces. They go away with a glow and a glory, your very life poured into them.” “Mary” knew and they knew that the life poured into them was not her own but God’s! Her spirit is seen in the following: We were standing at the gate of an airport waiting for our plane to be called. The wind was cold. She gaily said, “Lean up against the wind and let it warm you.” When you can wring warmth out of a north wind, you are incorrigibly happy and resourceful. You are joyous in spite of.
O Blessed Lord, I thank you for this Joy unspeakable and full of glory. I thank you that now I can joy out all sorrow, all opposition, all pain. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
AFFIRMATION FOR THE DAY: I am happy with God’s Happiness and joyous with God’s Joy. What can life do to me?
